Rabbit Farming Empowerment Scheme: Using Agro-industrial Cluster Frameworks
Yes, rabbit farming is good. Yes, rabbit farming is very lucrative. Yes, the biodigested rabbit waste is very essential/useful organic fertiliser and plant nutrient material. Yes, rabbit meat has healthy protein contents. Yes, rabbit is very prolific, littering between 5 to 12 kits per quarter.
Looking beyond, the propaganda and misinformation blitzkrieg of the opposition, it is very clear to every discerning and honest Imolite that the project concept, design, structuring and execution arrangements are greatly flawed and not entirely altruistic.
IF THE KEY PURPOSE OF THIS SCHEME BY THE PUBLIC SECTOR DRIVERS IS TO SUSTAINABLY AND CREATIVELY EMPOWER OUR YOUTHS… THEN, THEY SHOULD BE VERY CREATIVE AND HONEST ABOUT IT .
How do we remedy the situation?
Altruistically , they should have created 305 clusters in all the 305 electoral awards in Imo state.
Each of these clusters in a acre of land (with an eye for expansion ) will house 60 lots to rabbit stocks to managed by 60 properly trained youths farmers.
Each of these 305 ward clusters will have all the supporting technical, agro-industrial and processing infrastructure that will aid massive synergy in project delivery .
They will have shared power, utility, veterinary support, water, biodigester, security, insurance and other industrial agro support infrastructure that makes the project sustainable and maximizes return on Investments .
A properly designed, structured and executed rabbit farming empowerment schemes not selfishly designed just to award rabbit stock and cage supply contracts will easily create over 60 empowered youths in each of the 305 electoral wards in Imo state without us breaking sweat.
Government does not even need to put a kobo in the project . Design and structure this properly, train these youths , pool them into cooperatives, provide the cluster supporting infrastructure, show the road map to the market and the intervention funds will be there for their taken.
By putting in place the right and appropriate project delivery template in place that is transparent, creative, honest and excellently designed and executed, we can easily create over massive number of youth agripreneurs in this subsector alone within the next 3years starting with 2000- 6000 youths over the next one year.
