Pastor Umo Eno reiterates commitment to investments, entreprenural development in Akwa Ibom
… Commends Governor Udom for prioritizing Agricultural Rejuvenation
The Executive Director, Akwa Ibom Agricultural Investments, Pastor Umo Eno has reiterated unwavering commitment to the mandates of enhancing sustainability of agricultural investments in the state.
The Executive Director made his position known at the weekend where he was bestowed with an award of excellence for outstanding contributions to the development Engineering in Nigeria through employment and investments.
The award ceremony was part of activities of the first State conference and exhibition week of the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE), Akwa Ibom State Chapter.
Speaking at the event, Pastor Umo Eno stated that Governor Udom Emmanuel is doing very well in the agric sector and recently disbursed loans to farmers across the state.
Pastor Eno who was represented by his Administrative Secretary, Mrs Christiana Akpanobong, said the state government has approved an end to end project which would enable price regulation of agricultural produce in the state.
Responding to question on high cost of staple food especially garri in the market, he said government cannot regulate cost of garri because it was not involved in the production process adding that when the end to end project commences, government will be fully involved in the process by distributing improved stems of cassava, especially the biofortified ones.
He disclosed that Government has also approved the construction of off taking centres in the three Senatorial District of the state to ensure preservation of agricultural produce in the state and to mitigate unnecessary damages and financial burden shouldered by some farmers in the state.
Pastor Eno who is a recipient of Honourary member award of the World Conference of Mayors, USA, noted that accessing loans and grants from donor agencies was somewhat impossible as data were not available adding that the recent biometric capturing exercise of farmers in the state has taken care of that challenge.
He urged farmers and those interested in farming to opt their games especially with a shift from the predominant subsistence farming to a commercial level, adding that Government will continue to support farmers in the state
Presenting the Award, the Chairman on the occasion, Engr Ukeme Okpob commended Pastor Eno for driving the Agric Investments vision of the state government and appealed for speedy implementation of the lofty projects in the agric sector for welfare of Akwa Ibom people.
Earlier, the state Coordinator of NIAE, Engr Augustine Ubong said the choice of Pastor Eno for the award was due to his remarkeable contributions to different spheres of the state economy and urged him not to relent.
