OPOCA’s call for Okorocha’s recall: A Hugh slap to Igbo
GOVERNOR UZODIMMA BEHIND OPOCA AND HELLBENT ON ENDANGERING IGBO POLITICAL FORTUNE BY DERIDING A FIRST-RATE IGBO LEADER JUST TO PLEASE ENEMIES OF NDI IGBO*
HE SHOULD WITHOUT ANY FURTHER DELAY PUBLICLY APOLOGISE TO NDI IGBO FOR THE EMBARRASSMENTS HE IS CAUSING US SINCE HE BECAME GOVERNOR
We received an absurd report of an unblushing splinter group operating under the aegis of Orlu Political Consultative Assembly, OPOCA, which boasts to be initiating recall proceedings against the incumbent Senator representing Imo West in the Senate, Distinguished Senator Rochas Okorocha. The feckless group issued this statement through one Rex Anunobi who claims to be its National President.
For all that Senator Okorocha represents to the Southeast and ndi Igbo generally in national politics, we consider such recall-threat on the two-term governor of Imo State and three-times Presidential candidate of Nigeria as not just an insult but an embarrassment to the Igbo nation.
We have no doubt that the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma is behind this absurdity which he truly knows can succeed only in the figment of his own imagination. Using his Commissioner for Transport, Anunobi, to want to destabilise the relative peace currently being enjoyed in Imo West after he had unleashed the military on the people of the zone casts aspersions on the character of the governor and reveals his vengeful intentions towards them for rejecting him outrightly during the governorship election in 2019.
A review of the direct and indirect unprovoked and unwarranted attacks on Senator Okorocha so far have nothing to do with indictment except that Governor Uzodimma, since he was declared governor by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, is overzealously playing to the gallery in order to satisfy enemies of Ndi Igbo to the detriment of our political fortune as a people. He has impenitently decided to make himself a willing tool in undermining the political interest and progress of ndi Igbo especially as it concerns 2023.
Currently, the governor is leaving no stone unturned in maliging Senator Okorocha knowing fully well that he is helping enemies of ndi Igbo to whittling down the political influence of the Igbo nation in national politics.
Apart from religiously demolishing all the signature projects and enduring legacies Senator Okorocha built in Imo State when he was governor, this successor of his has continued to display spiteful desperation to confiscate all investments linked to the Okorochas in the state which led to the obvious deadly assassination attack on the Distinguished Senator at the Royal Spring Palm apartment facility. The savagery onslaught took place in Owerri and had one notorious Chinasa Nwanaeri, Governor Uzodimma’s Special Assistant on Special Duties, as the ringleader.
Footages from the assassination attempt revealed it was a gory sight to behold. The way the bandits led by the said Chinasa openly brandished machetes, guns and other dangerous weapons, butchered some of Senator Okorocha’s aides with machetes, shattered his son-in-law’s leg with bullets, and brutally vandalised all the vehicles on his convoy was suggestive that if not that the world was already watching because a courageous Igbo son at the scene was recording and transmitting live their sinister actions, and they realised it, they would have gone ahead to unleash more terror on the Senator, and perhaps murdered him in cold blood.
Most worrisome is that as this life-threatening attack was being unleashed on Senator Okorocha, these hoodlums who vandalised all his vehicles and made away with all his bags and valuables were seen in the video unfortunately getting protection and assistance from men of the Nigerian Police who identified themselves to have come from the Government House, suggesting an outright breakdown of law and order in Imo State under the leadership of Governor Uzodimma.
Our point here is that we cannot be talking about producing a Nigeria President of Igbo extraction in 2023 and still make ourselves a willing-tool for deriding Igbo first-rates like Senator Okorocha. We condemn in very strong terms every insult and assault on Senator Okorocha by Governor Uzodimma and his agents including the malicious use of OPOCA to threaten his recall from the National Assembly. We consider it as barbaric, undemocratic and a huge slap and embarrassment to the generality of Ndi Igbo at home and in the diaspora.
In conclusion, we urge Governor Uzodimma to go and make peace with his brother, Senator Okorocha, and desist from further political witch-hunt and vendetta against him. Without any further delay, he should publicly apologise to him and Ndi Igbo in general for the embarrassment his overzealous actions is causing us as a people. We need to be virilely united this moment and it is only in unity that ndi Igbo can produce the next President of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, as a responsible organisation that is peaceful and law-abiding, we join our voices in the petitions already submitted to the Inspector General of Police to call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Chinasa Nwanaeri, the ringleader of the miscreants that made the life-threatening assassination attempt on a Senator of the Federal Republic, Distinguished Senator Rochas Okorocha. Also, those suspicious men of the Nigerian Police who claimed to have come from the Government House should be investigated to ascertain whether they are real Policemen because their actions are capable of painting the entire Police Force in negative image and conduct.
