NUJ honours Sen Akpabio
The sterling performance of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs ,Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON, in any service station he finds himself resonated last night as the Akwa Ibom State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalist conferred on him AWARD OF EXCELLENCE citing his attribute of effective service delivery as the reason for the epochal conferment.
The conferment which was done to round off the 2020 NUJ PRESS WEEK took place at the Emerald Event Centre, where a well attended dinner was held as the closing ceremony of the week-long event.
The Award which was presented by the Chairman of the occasion, Mr, Ide Omodiong reads thus:
AWARD OF EXCELLENCE presented to CHIEF (DR,) SENATOR GODSWILL OBOT AKPABIO in recognition and appreciation of your outstanding contributions in positively transforming Akwa Ibom State, the Niger Delta region and Nigeria through effective service delivery, on the occasion of te 2020 NUJ Press Week.
The letter of Award is duly signed by the Chairman -in-Council, Comr. Amos Etuk and Comr. Nsibiet John who served as Chairman, Planning Committee in 2019 and repeated the responsibility and delivered even at a grander scale.
Arc.Ubokudom Nya who received the Award on behalf of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs who was unavoidably absent owing to the exigency of national assignment, described Akpabio as an enigmatic personality who takes minor things like decoration of the City during Christmas very seriously and complex things like building flyovers with uncommon simplicity . He said it is this odd and curious strategy that produced the Uncommon Transformation that replete the State.
Senator Akpabio was governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015. During the period, the State witnessed a revolution in all facets of development. The breathtaking renaissance that greeted the State led to the popular sobriquet, UNCOMMON TRANSFORMATION which was a modest way of explaining the exponential paradigm shift in development which was not only rapid but novel, creative and qualitative.
Remembering and honouring him more than five years after he left office, by no less a body as NUJ, is instructive and very reflective. It tells a lot about public service and public perception. And the media being the mirror and conscience of the society, which collate and shape these public opinions use them to set benchmarks as well as present the players to history and posterity. With the kind sentiments expressed by the Akwa Ibom State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists, Senator Godswill Akpabio ascends the pantheon of leaders that posterity would show kindness to, and history would treat reverentially.
