Nigerian Army Declares Essien Udim Community Safe, Secure
…urges displaced persons to return home
It was a moment of joy and jubilation across Essien Udim LGA as Nigerian Army declared the area safe and free from intimidation and insecurity.
The Commander 2 Brigade of Nigerian Army made the declaration while flagging off a free medical outreach organised for the people of Uwa, Ikot Akpan, Ikot Afangna, Ikot Otu and other villages in Essien Udim and Obot Akara LGAs today, 5th July 2021 in commemoration of Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2021.
The Commander who encouraged displaced persons following the recent security breaches in the area to return home and go about their legitimate businesses, reassured them of adequate security of their lives and property.
He noted that the free medical outreach was to help the people recover their health as they had been away from their homes for long even as they were traumatized by the recent crisis.
Inuwa called on the people to count on the Nigerian Army anytime for their protection and security
It will be recalled that the people of Ikot Akpan, Uwa, Ikot Afangna and other villages in Essien Udim were the most affected in the recent security breaches in the area.
In his remarks, the Essien Udim Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke who was represented by the Leader of Essien Udim Legislature, Hon Mary R. Charles pledged the unalloyed support and continuous cooperation of the people with the Army and other security agencies to secure the area and thanked the Nigerian Army for the gestures and goodwill to the people.
He enjoined the people to be free and interact with the military medical team for the health benefits.
In a good will message, the Clan Head of Ukana West, His Highness Okuku Sylvanus Udo Ekanem, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army for bringing succour to them in their distress.
The Royal father prayed for more strength, God’s guidance and victories for the men and officers of the Nigerian Army as they continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities of protecting the integrity and sovereignty of Nigeria against any form of aggression and threat.
Also, the political leader of Ukana Uwa West 1, Obong (Hon) John Udo Ekanem who appreciated the Chief of Army Staff and the Commander 2 Brigade Uyo for their love, care and concern for the people urged them to continue the good works as God is with them.
He also commended the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel and the Local Government Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke for their prompt intervention to restore peace to the area.
Also speaking was the Supervisor for Special Duties, Hon. Ifiok Ibanga who lauded the Nigerian Army for their humanitarian services and charged the people to make good use of the opportunity to receive health care as they prepare to return home.
