The Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has “commended President Muhammad Buhari for appointing Barr. Effiong Akwa, as Interim Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC”
This was part of resolution reached at the end of January 2021 Congress of the Union on Friday.
Congress also “called for support from all the stakeholders in the region for him (Effiong Akwa) so that he can see off the forensic auditing of the Commission.”
The 8th point Communique reached at the end of deliberations and jointly signed by the Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee, CDC, Comrade Margaret Moore; Secretary, Comrade Gabriel Ekandem and Victor Ufot, Member, as well as Comrade Amos Etuk, State Chairman and Comrade Dominic Akpan, State Secretary also resolved that:
“That the State Government should take every necessary step, including a collaboration with the National Boundary Commission, NBC, to bring a lasting solution to the incessant boundary clashes, between some communities in Akwa Ibom and their neighbours in Abia State, particularly the crises in INI Local Government, which have claimed many lives.
“Congress commended President Muhammad Buhari for appointing Barr. Effiong Akwa, as Interim Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and called for support from all the stakeholders in the region for him so that he can see off the forensic auditing of the Commission.
“Similarly, Congress expressed solidarity with the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON, for his efforts to reposition NDDC and again appealed to all the stakeholders in the region to allow peace to reign.
“Congress commended the Executive Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Hon. Kingsley Frank; SSA to the Governor on Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Projects; Hon. Sampson Idiong: Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection & Waste Management Agency, Prince Akpan Ikim; Leader of Oruk Anam Legislature, Hon. Sunday Festus, security agencies and other stakeholders for the resolution of the cult crisis, which displaced over 3000 persons in Inen Clan, a section of the local government.
“Furthermore, Congress frowned seriously at the formation of splinter groups within the Union and resolved to suspend indefinitely any erring member of the Union who belongs to it.
“Congress passed a Vote of Confidence on the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Amos Etuk and urged him to go for a second term.
”
Members are encouraged to register for their National Identification Number, NIN, and mobilise Akwa Ibom people through their media organizations to take advantage of the exercise in their local government areas so that they will not be shut out from mobile communication by network providers at the end of the deadline set by the Federal Government for registration
“It was also resolved that members should take responsibility for their safety against COVID-19, even as the State Government was urged to intensify its awareness campaigns on the deadly disease.”
