Murder of Miss Iniubong Umoren: Special appeal to Akwa IBOM State Commissioner of Police
The death of Miss Iniubong Umoren has brought in its wake a surfeit of allegations and rumours including some politically motivated machinations to besmirch and destroy the political career of some persons.
We have also witnessed the emergence of emergency private investigators whose analyses of their so called findings appear predetermined and targeted at some persons even when the attempt to link such persons to the heinous crime is remote and farfetched.
We are gradually moving into a season of more lies and actions that may jeopardise the investigation of the despicable crime which led to the murder of Miss Iniubong.
There is the growing fear that the life of the suspect whose confession may implicate high profile persons may be in danger to forestall the emergence of truth.
It is also possible that those sponsoring the baseless allegations linking the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs to the dastardly act may proceed to eliminate the victim and turn around to accuse Senator Akpabio of being complicit in the death of the suspect.
It is in view of the above that we are appealing to the Commissioner of Police e in the State to see these possibilities and do all within his power to ensure the safety of Uduak Frank Akpan so that the world would know the real truth.
If anything happens to the suspect, the truth would not only be buried with the perpetrators escaping justice, innocent persons who have no hand or knowledge of the crimes committed by Uduak and his accomplices would suffer a reputation haemorrhage for something they know nothing about. As a trite adage asserts, it is better for a thousand criminals to be set free than for one innocent person to be convicted.
Let the Commissioner rise to the occasion and protect the suspect as this is a sine qua non to protecting the reputation of others .
