Murder of Iniubong Umoren: Akwa Ibom NUJ tasks police on proper investigation, justice
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council has urged the Nigeria Police Force, Akwa Ibom State Command to bring to justice all the accomplices in the murder of the female job seeker, Iniubong Umoren.
The position of the union was contained in the communique issued at the end of the monthly State Congress which took place at the Press Centre, Uyo, on Monday, 31st May 2021 and signed by the Chairman, NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council, Mr Amos Etok and Secretary, Dominic Akpan and made available to MORENEWS.NG
The congress urged the Nigeria Police to look into the alleged contradictions in the statements by the police and that of the suspected accomplices in the crime, Kufre Effiong and the confessional statement by the murder suspect, Uduak Frank Akpan.
Recalled that the Police had told the world that “the suspect confessed to have told his local government chairman of his atrocity before escaping to Calabar and was never at any time handed over to the Police by anyone”.
“Congress thanked God for His mercies upon the life of Gov. Udom Emmanuel in the last six years in office, and prayed for wisdom, good health, insight and discernment for him, as he steers the ship of the Completion Agenda to the harbour in 2023.
“Congress ratified the suspension of Comrade Edet Edet of Federated Chapel and Comrade Jerry Edoho of Consolidated Chapel for flouting the decision of the National Executive Council, NEC.
“Congress resolved that the media community in the State will focus its attention on the trial of Mr. Uduak Akpan, the suspected killer of a job seeker, Miss Iniubong Umoren to the end, when he is arraigned in court.
“Furthermore, Congress urged the Nigeria Police Force, Akwa Ibom State Command to bring to justice all the accomplices in the murder of Iniubong Umoren, as the Police had told the world that “the suspect confessed to have told his local government chairman of his atrocity before escaping to Calabar and was never at any time handed over to the Police by anyone”.
“Similarly, Congress called on the Police in Akwa Ibom State to ensure that justice is served in the case of the businessman, who was killed by a soldier.
“On the other hand, Congress called on the Akwa State Police Command to always involve the NUJ in the mobilisation of journalists for press conferences organised by the Police.
“The creation of Unity Chapel was ratified at Congress, having been endorsed by the State working Committee, SWC and State Executive Committee, SEC.
“On air pollution by a manufacturing company located at the former premises of Solid Rock Kingdom Church, on Ikot Ekpene Road, Congress called on the Ministry of Environment to consider relocating the company to any of the industrial layouts in the State to save the lives of the people in the neighborhood.
“Obviously worried by the lost glory of Ibom Plaza, occasioned by infrastructure decay, Congress called on the State Government to match words with action on its proposed remodelling of the facility, in order to return the Plaza to the original intention of the initiator, which was recreation.
“Congress commended the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga and Barr. Ekong Sampson, a former Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State for their support towards the auditorium project at the Press Centre.”
