LG Elections 2024: Essien Udim Youths Adopt Dr. Anthony Luke as Sole Candidate
Youths of Essien Udim, under the auspices of Essien Udim Youths Assembly, comprising the leadership of the various youths structures in the State including the Youth Caucus, Youth Council, PDP Youth leaders, Village Youths, Christian Youths, Clan youths and other youth stakeholders in the local government area have endorsed the second term bid of the Transition Chairman, Dr. Anthony Luke and adopted him as their sole candidate in the October 2024 chairmanship election.
This is contained in a communique released at the end of a strategic youth leaders meeting held on Saturday, 13th July 2024, at Adiasim in, Essien Udim LGA.
They commended the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for the appointment of two Essien Udim youths as Special Assistants (SA) to the governor and made a case for more appointments of youths of Essien Udim as SSAs and SAs to the governor and other positions.
They passed a vote of confidence in the administration of Dr. Anthony Luke as Executive and Transition Chairman of the council for running an all-inclusive government and for carrying the youths along in his administrations.
The youths acknowledged the superlative and stellar performance of Dr. Anthony Luke-led administration and called for the consolidation of the administration’s transformational drive in Essien Udim.
The youths reviewed activities building up to the 2024 Local Government Elections slated for October 26, 2024 and sued for peace and support to Dr. Anthony Luke’s ambition.
They lauded the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for insisting on zoning in the forthcoming local government elections called for respect of the age-long zoning system in Essien Udim, which allows elective positions to be shared between the two political zones in the area.
The Youth Leaders urged political gladiators in Essien Udim to resist any attempt to truncate the established zoning arrangements in the area, describing such an attempt as a call for anarchy and vowed to resist it.
The youths also expressed gratitude to the elders, stakeholders and members of Essien Udim caucus for their role in supporting elected representatives and leaders by creating a peaceful atmosphere for them to lead the people.
While recalling that in the 2020 local government elections, Dr. Anthony Luke, the current Transition Chairman, emerged as the youth slot for Essien Udim and has not disappointed the youths and the people of Essien Udim in general, the youths solicited for more support to the chairman to consolidate on his achievements in office and deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.
In a similar development, Odoro Ikot Ward I youths led by Mr. Sunday Oscar have also endorsed the Chairman’s second term ambition as youths slot and promised to mobilize massive support of all Essien Udim people for the success of the Chairman’s re-election.
