… League of Newspaper Publishers gets new exco
Newspaper publishers in Akwa Ibom State under the auspices of League of Newspaper Publishers has inaugurated interim executive committee to oversee the activities of the league in the state.
The new interim exco has the Publisher of Newslink Newspaper, Mr Udeme Inyang as the Chairman and Mrs Emem Nkereuwem as the Vice Chairman while Mr Sammy Charles will serve as Secretary of the committee.
Other members of the committee include Mr Solomon Bassey, Mrs Eno Inyang, Mr Samuel Joshua, Mr Abasifreke Effiong, and Mr Kufre Etuk all publishers.
Inaugurating the committee, the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) League of Newspaper Publishers, Mr Ephraim Akpan tasked the committee to embark on aggressive reformation of the league by bringing straying members back and restore sanity to the league.
The former chairman of Mkpat Enin also charged the committee to ensure the conduct of election for the substantive executive committee within six months and also restore the lost glory of the league.
Akpan enjoined the committee to run an all inclusive and transparents administration so as to carry all members along and also give them sense of belonging to the business organisation.
Also speaking, the member of the BOT and Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on media, Mr Uko Umo advised the committee to maintain the dignity of the league as a business club and also ensure that the standard is maintained.
He warned them against acts that can drag the reputation of the club to the mud and ruin the good image and integrity of the committee.
In his acceptance speech, the Interim Chairman, Mr Udeme Inyang promised to adhere strictly to the rules and tenets of the league as he resolved to move the league forward.
Inyang also vowed to reciprocate the confidence reposed on him by the BOT and the league in general by carrying everyone along in his administration.
He also assured the league of efficient, effective and open door leadership as he will also work towards reconciling aggrieved members and bring them back.
Highlight of the meeting which took place at Fishers Hotel Uyo was the inauguration of a Ten Anniversary Planning Committee to plan a befitting anniversary ceremony to mark ten years of existence of the league.
The anniversary committee is chaired by the SA to the governor on media, Mr Uko Umo while all members of the Board of Trustee (BOT), members of the interim executive committee are part of the anniversary commitee.
Speaking, a member of the BOT, Mr Inimfon Silas urged members to have faith in the interim executive committee to reposition the league for the good of all members.
He promised that all members will be carried along in the new phase of the league and charged others to remember loyal and committed to the well being of the league.
He charged tge interim committee members to work hard to the league to an enviable height.
Congratulating the interim executive committee, the publisher of the Evangelist Newspaper, Mr Solomon Okpo charged the committee to be innovative and update in all activities so as to be able to pilot the affairs of the league in line with the global best practice.
He also charged the leadership not to be selfish but work for the over all interest of the members of the league stressing that posterity will remember them if they do not let the people down.
