…Uyo agog for end-police-brutality protest
As Nigerians continue to agitate for a total over-haul of the Nigeria Police Force, youths in Akwa Ibom have joined their voices in calling for an end to police brutality in the country.
The youths were seen carrying placards with different inscriptions walking peacefully from Ibom Plaza towards Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo Tuesday.
This is the first time the protest is happening in Uyo since the End SARS protest started about a week ago in major cities in the country such as Lagos, Abuja, Edo, Delta, Oyo, Ogun among others.
Recall that the End SARS protest has led to the disbandment of the Special Anti-robbery Squad unit of the Nigeria Police Force by the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu on Sunday.
Before the disbandment, SARS was accused of extrajudicial killings and molestation of innocent citizens of the country.
Still unsatisfied with the dissolution of SARS Nigerians took to the street again demanding for the total overhaul of the Police force in the country.
Speaking, with Morenews in Uyo, a protester said that there is no going back on their demands for a reformed police force that will truly be the peoples’ friends.
“We are determined to see to a complete overhaul of the police force. It is not enough to disband SARS.
“Reformation of the police force has long over due and our governments are taken Nigerians for a ride.
“This time, we have to show that democracy is the government of the people. We are the masters not people in government”
