Insecurity: Unknown gunmen attack police check-point, kill 3 cops, burn vehicle in Delta
Unknown gunmen are said to have killed three police officers assigned to the Umutu Divisional Police Headquarters in Delta State.
The victims were reportedly slain by armed hoodlums at a checkpoint on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred in the early hour of Wednesday, 8th September 2021
The event happened at the Obeti/Oliogo Road in Delta State’s Ukwuani Local Government Area, at a checkpoint set up by the late policemen.
The patrol Toyota Sienna recently delivered to the Umutu police division was burned in the process, according to local reports.
According to one account, the gunmen then set fire to the police officers’ patrol Toyota Sienna after killing them.
“Three police officers attached to the Umutu Division Police Headquarters were attacked and killed on arrival to a checkpoint between Obeti and Oliogo in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta.
According to the source, the cops were burnt beyond recognition in their patrol Toyota Sienna.
Residents of Umutu, Obeti, and Oliogo, as well as other nearby communities, are claimed to be in a state of high anxiety as a result of the development.
At the time of reporting this story, no one had claimed responsibility for the incident.
Attempts to obtain confirmation from the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, were unsuccessful.
Recalled that hoodlums have launched similar attacks on Police formations in some parts of South-South and southeast Regions, killing, setting police stations ablaze, and also cart away rifles.
The reasons and purpose of these attacks remains a mystery as some attributed it to activities of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a security outfit of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)
