Iniubong Umoren murder: Suspect confessed to have raped six other girls
– police insist no other shallow graves, human bones was uncovered in suspect’s compound
The last may not have been heard of the ongoing investigation into the gruelsome murder of Akwa Ibom job seeker, Iniubong Umoren as the prime suspect, Uduak Frank Akpan, has confessed to have raped six other girls before his latest victim which landed him in police net.
The suspect who made the revelation while interacting with pressmen at the Akwa Ibom State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo during police press briefing Friday,14th May, 2021 admitted killing the young undergraduate, Iniubong Umoren whom he lured with fake job interview.
He also admitted to have had carnal knowledge of his latest victim, Iniubong Umoren in his father’s compound.
Uduak told the press that he murdered his victim while trying to force himself on her.
Asked why he did not report the crime to the police but decided to bury his victim in a 2 feet deep grave, he said he was afraid of being arrested by the police so he decided to cover up his crime.
The suspect said he regretted commiting the crime and is ready to accept any form of punishment for his crime.
On his relationship with Kufre Effiong who was indicted by an investigative reporter who linked him to the murderer as one of the accomplices of the crime, the suspect confirmed that Kufre is his cousin whom he called for help on his return from Calabar where he fled to after commiting the crime.
Uduak’s father, Mr Frank Akpan, a retiree with the Federal Ministry of Health who was also paraded along with his son, said he was disappointed by the action of his son, Uduak, saying that he wants the law to take its course for justice to prevail.
He stated that he was not aware of the crime until the police stormed his compound and arrested him for questioning the way about of his son, Uduak.
Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State Mr Amiengheme Andrew has insisted that there was no other shallow graves, human bones as was reported by the BBC Pigin reporter recently, stressing that the police had visited the scene of the crime and only saw one shallow grave where Late Iniubong was buried.
He also denied the rumour and speculations in some sections of the media that the suspect, Uduak Akpan, has commited suicide in the police custody.
He also denied any complicit in the matter while calling on the public to give police useful information that will help to unravel the truth about the matter instead of involving in media trial.
The CP also told the press that autopsy was done on the exhumed body of the victim but refused to reveal the result of the autopsy, saying that at the end of investigation into the matter the result will be made public.
He also assured the public that justice will be done on the case.
The police commissioner also promised to investigate the matter to a conclusive end to ensure that justice is done.
It is worthy of note that the remains of Iniubong Umoren murdered by Uduak Frank was laid to rest on Friday, May 14, 2021 while investigations into her murder are on going.
