Gov Umo Eno renames 21-Storey Dakkada Towers after Udom Emmanuel
Akwa Ibom State’s 21-Storey smart building, hitherto known as Dakkada Towers has been renamed Udom Emmanuel Towers.
Announcing the rechristening during a Special Thanksgiving Service/Book Presentation in commemoration of his administration ‘s first anniversary at the International Christian Worship Centre, Uyo, the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, said the gesture was in recognition of his accomplishments during his tenure as governor.
Governor Eno lauded Mr. Udom Emmanuel’s initiative of expanding the International Airport Road which is to be commissioned on Monday, May 27, 2024, providing the massive worship centre where the thanksgiving event held and the 21-storey smart edifice which is notably the tallest building in the region, among other reputable projects.
He also applauded the selflessness of his predecessor in naming the State’s airport and stadium after former governors Victor Attah and his predecessor Godswill Akpabio respectively.
“Today, Akwa Ibom has an altar where we can gather, and accommodate everybody. It is one of the visions that God gave you, and opposite this building is the 21-storey Dakkada Towers, about the tallest building in the South-South.
“By the authority conferred on me as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, I rename the tower today, Udom Emmanuel Towers, so that we can put your name on this towers.
“You had named the airport after Obong Attah. You had renamed the stadium after Godswill Akpabio. Today I name this 21-storey edifice after you for the good works you did in Akwa Ibom. So the tower will no more be called Dakkada Towers, but will now be known, called and addressed as The Udom Emmanuel Towers.”
Earlier in his thanksgiving speech, the Governor said God has been good to Akwa Ibom and granted peace since his assumption of office in the past one year.
He thanked former Governor Emmanuel for standing firm on his resolve to see him through the turbulent journey of becoming his successor and through his one year stay in office, as well as the church community and the State in general for their prayers and support through his first year in office.
The Governor also thanked the Legislative and Judicial arms of government for working collaboratively with the Executive to ensure good governance in the State, and the Peoples Democratic Party and other parties for their cooperation.
He particularly appreciated Nigeria’s President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his accommodating disposition and prayed for his success.
The immediate past governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, in his remarks at the service, described God as all able and most faithful in seeing his people through turbulent situations, and specifically thanked Him for disproving the mock-predictions from naysayers, even after elections, that Pastor Umo Eno will be ousted by the numerous litigations that trailed his emergence, and for making his one year in office a glorious celebration.
Congratulating Governor Eno on his first anniversary, Mr. Emmanuel assured of his continuous support for his successor’s administration and promised that he would not be a clog in his wheel of progress
He also thanked the fathers in faith and entire Akwa Ibom people for joining the Governor to acknowledge God as the “Ebenezer,” for the State.
Among the goodwill messages at the event were the words of the PDP National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, who described Governor Eno as the Pride of the PDP, given his sterling performance and humane disposition towards his people, especially maintaining a healthy relationship with his predecessor.
Otuekong Don Etiebet on his part described Governor Eno as a man of the people, who has maintained a humble, friendly and horizontal disposition, regarding and embracing all equally with no biases, while the Minister of States for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the Governor as a good shepherd who came to power when the people needed him most for unity of the various fabrics of the state.
In his remarks about the book, “And it Came to Pass,” which chronicles the governor’s political trajectory, Emmanuel Enoidem SAN, said the title of the book is very apt, adding that the former governor gave a prophecy on 30 January 2022 on his succession, despite the tribulations and challenges, it came to pass.
Delivering a homily titled, “Ebenezer: This is How Far the Lord has Helped us,” culled from 1 Samuel 7:1-12, Presiding Bishop Bernard Asare of the Zion Praise Chapel, Ghana, related the story of events that culminated in Pastor Umo Eno’s emergence to the story of Samuel’s encounter and Israel’s victory over the Philistines.
He described the Thanksgiving Service as necessary and a demonstration of gratitude by a people who acknowledge their God and His grace upon them as well as the need to return to Him in thanksgiving.
