Glory Edet emerges 1st NAAKIMS-Worldwide female Patron
In recognition of her immense achievements and contributions to the development of Medical Students, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, has emerged the first female Patron, National Association of Akwa Ibom State Medical Students (an umbrella group of the Students Doctors of Akwa Ibom State origin across the World).
Responding during the event held yesterday at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat complex, Uyo, Dr. Edet appreciated the group for honouring her as the first female patron, promising that the award will encourage her to do more in service to humanity.
She said “the award is cherished since it emanates from an organised group. I will not fail in the confidence reposed on me, but will continue to support your programmes”

Dr. Edet, who lauded the group for successfully organising a cancer awareness campaign during the World Cancer Day, a few months ago in Ini Local Government, called on other groups to join the trend, so as to minimally reduce the challenges facing humanity.
She advised them to take their studies seriously in the University, in order to make their parents and Akwa Ibom proud.
The Commissioner in response to an appeal made by the group, personally took over full sponsorship of a year two Medical Student, who was about to withdraw from the University due to lack of funds. The sponsorship covers throughout her first degree programme. Dr. Edet also promise to pay school fees for five (5) less privileged students. She as well decorated Miss NAAKIMS.
Earlier, NAAKIMS-World Wide President, Comrade Utomobong Udo said the award came on the heels of the recommendation of the Nigerian Medical Association, based on her track record, benevolence and support to the Medical profession in the State.
Comrade Udo who applauded the Commissioner for her philanthropic disposition, appealed for the sponsorship of an outstanding medical student, Ms. Emem Umoh.
In his remarks, the Director of Administration Mr. Iffiok Udo, commended the group for pointing out the challenge faced by one of their colleagues, which has been addressed by the Commissioner for Agriculture.
The event featured the presentation to the Honourable Commissioner, an award of recognition, a T-shirt, face cap and sage.
The event was graced by the Directors of fisheries, Lady Nse Ekpeyong, PRS, Mr. Solomon Joe, Account, Mrs. Mary Eyo, among others.
