Frustration: Akan Udofia shuns OBA, Akan Okon, decamps to APC
… Says Umo Eno’s popularity overwhelming
Citing overwhelming popularity of leading PDP 2023 Governorship aspirant, Pastor Umo Eno, one of the party’s gubernatorial aspirant and member of the now defunct G3, a group of PDP aspirants in Akwa Ibom State have decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Akan Udofia who had earlier bought the PDP Governorship Expression of Interest and Nomination form and was screened to contest the party’s primary is said to have told close aides the time had come for him to tell himself the bitter truth and accept the reality that he stands no chance winning the PDP Governorship ticket, hence his last minute departure to try his luck in the APC.
“His departure which has brought about the “untimely” demise to the G3 group he once pioneered alongside Senator Bassey Albert and Mr Akan Okon, has cleared the road for the emergence of Pastor Umo Eno becoming the PDP Governorship flagbearer with almost 90% certainty”, said a high ranking PDP chieftain who pleaded anonymity.
But less than an hour after Akan Udofia’s defection to the APC, there are strong indications that he may still not clinch the APC Guber ticket as opposition within the party is already mounting against his defection and plans to negotiate for the ticket.
Feelers from the APC suggests other governorship aspirants like Senator Ita Enang, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, Mr. Larry Esin, Hon. Austin Utuk, Prof. Chris Ekong, Mr. Richard Awana, and Mr. Uduak Udoh are already teaming up to frustrate Akan Udofia who is believed to be close to the Akwa Ibom Democratic Forum, ADF, the bloc loyal to Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of the Niger Delta.
