FedPoly Ukana: We’ve acquired best equipment for learning activities- Rector
The Rector Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Dr. Uduak Sunday Ukekpe has stated that the institution has acquired the best equipment and state of the art facilities to enhance academic activities and learning in the Polytechnic.
Dr. Ukekpe made this statement during the 8th Orientation exercise for fresh students of the Polytechnic at the Main Campus of the institution.
He said “ judging by the facilities and equipment this institution has acquired, we should be the best in providing you with qualitative and functional education especially in technological and entrepreneurial studies which will make you outstanding in character and learning.
“This will be the last orientation exercise that will comprise of only two departments as the Polytechnic has recently secured NBTE accreditation for 8 courses which has seen the polytechnic now broken down into three schools, namely : School of Engineering, School of Management Science and School of Applied Sciences” He assured.
“ As a student you are expected to explore all avenues provided by the institution to better your lot during the period of your studies here, by visiting the library, workshops, lecture halls etc.
“With the Polytechnic having gone out of her way to provide facilities convenient for learning, it is expected of all students to use this properties rightly and also protect them .
“ It is important to note that many students take pleasure in vandalizing school properties with the notion that it is government’s property and belongs to no individual. I want to correct that notion by advising you to desist from such and also talk your friends who has such intentions, out of it.
He advised students against indulging in antisocial activities as the Polytechnic will not hesitate to sanction culprits in line with the school’s rules. In his words,“As students, you must shun cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, fighting and other anti-social behaviours. We will not hesitate to sanction any erring student in line with laid down rules and regulations,” he said.
Dr Ukepke confirmed to the students that the management operates an open door policy which gives room for students to channel their plight, observations to the management through the Student Union Executives.
He promised the students that accommodation which has been a major concern to students will soon become a thing of the past as construction of hostels in the Polytechnic is imminent. He also advice students to imbibe the culture of dressing decently as people will address them by how they dress. He congratulates them for gaining admission into the institution.
Earlier, the Deputy Rector, Mr Elijah E. Etuk, who doubles has the Dean of Programmes in his opening remark, welcomed the students and explained that this exercise is meant to acquaint them with the activities as well as the rules and regulations of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana as they sojourn in the institution.
The Registrar, Dr. Okon J. Ekanem while addressing the students reminded the students that the vision of the institution is to be a pace setter in the technological advancements of our nation while the vision of the Polytechnic remains to produce global icons.
