Federal Polytechnic Ukana marks 7th anniversary with solemn assembly
…says institution is repositioned to revolutionalize technical education in Nigeria
The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ukana Dr. Uduak Sunday Ukekpe says the institution has been repositioned to take a leading role in the provision of technical education in Nigeria.
The Rector made this disclosure during a Solemn Assembly and Thanksgiving Service to mark the 7th anniversary of the establishment of the institution held at the annex campus of the polytechnic.
Dr. Ukekpe who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Mr.Edet Elijah Etuk said, “this polytechnic is repositioned to contribute to the effective teaching of technical education in view of its importance in the development of our country. So far, we have acquired all the equipment needed for the take-off of Civil and Electrical/Electronic Engineering as well as other technical programmes. Once we secure accreditation for our engineering programmes, we will surely broaden the scope of technical education in Nigeria,” he stressed.
The polytechnic boss commended staffers for the initiative of organising a religious converge to commemorate the 7th anniversary of the polytechnic, declaring that the worship of the Almighty God is paramount and a focal point to the administration, hence the need to gather and venerate God.
The Rector said the Management of the institution will continue to work hard to ensure the institution gets the best in terms of facilities and manpower.
The Registrar of the institution, Dr. Okon John Ekanem said the initiative to thank God for the seven years of existence of the polytechnic was well thought of. He said the little successes recorded so far was a clear indication that the polytechnic was making progress and charged staff to remain dedicated and committed to their duties to reciprocate management effort. He commended the determination and zeal of the Rector to give the institution a facelift.
Setting the tone for the ceremony, the Polytechnic Public Relations Officer, Mr. Manasseh Umoette said the event was aimed at celebrating the achievements of the Institution so far and also to show gratitude to God Almighty for His grace and love which has been sufficient for the Polytechnic. He posited that the Solemn Assembly which is an act of pertinence was geared towards seeking the face and help of the Lord as well as declaring his goodness and mercies through praises as the Polytechnic marked its 7th Anniversary.
In an exhortation, Rev Anthony Omorogieva speaking on the theme of the event, “Lord , We Are Grateful ” charged everyone to develop the habit of thanking God at all times. He said ” When we thank God, He will make a way”. He rounded off his homily by stating that “once you know that God exist, He will give you result for every little thing you do”. He said it was important for Christians to understand that they must be thankful to God.
He also enjoined Christians to walk in the consciousness that God is the reason they were living and enjoying all the success and achievements that have come their way.
The climax of the event was the cutting of the Colourful Anniversary Cake by the Polytechnic’s Principal Officers as well as the Heads of various Unions in the Polytechnic including Representatives of the Senior Staff Association Of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP)Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnic(ASUP) as well as the President of the Student Union Government and Alumni Association of the institution who earlier gave their goodwill messages.
Highpoint of the ceremony witnessed prayer sessions for the institution, praise and worship session.
It could be recalled that the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana was established on 9th June, 2014 by the Federal Government to provide technical education in the country.
