Exposed! The Catholic Shrine in Akwa Ibom!
Very few Akwa Ibom persons are aware of the existence of a SHRINE in the State. The SHRINE is owned by the Catholic Church. Yours truly can say without the fear of contradiction that very few Catholics in the State know of this SHRINE.
Note that this SHRINE is not a Church perse, though it’s a place of worship and actually owned by a Church. It is known, called and addressed as IMMACULATE CONCEPTION INTERNATIONAL SHRINE.
It is the only Catholic Shrine in West Africa
The said SHRINE is the most visited place in Akwa Ibom State. Religious tourists come in from as far away as Europe, Asian, America, etc. and from within the continent of Africa, including other states in Nigeria, for blessings, deliverance, prayers, salvation, mass, healing, worship, power, etc.
It is located in Oboetim Ikot Ekong in Nsit Ibom LGA, Akwa Ibom State. In the village also is St. Raphael Catholic Church. This lends credence to the submission above that there is a difference between a SHRINE and a CHURCH, even though both seem to serve the same purpose – Worship.
The SHRINE was built almost entirely by the late Archbishop Brain Davis Usanga in 1981. The first Administrator was the late Rev. Fr. Eboh.
The current Administrator of the SHRINE is Rev. Fr. Anthony Umoh.
