Essien Udim Local Government partners Merchant Seaman Academy on human capacity development
…As Light Up Nigeria Project set to empower 900 indigenes
In his continuous quest for a progressive Essien Udim, the Local Government Council Chairman, Dr Anthony Luke has partnered Merchant Seaman Academy – MSA in conjunction with Light Up Nigeria for human capacity development and empowerment of 900 indigenes of the area.
This was made known during a familiarization visit to the Transition Committee Chairman, Dr Anthony Luke by the Rector, Merchant Seaman Academy, Ukana, Captain Adams Pius and the State Director, Light Up Nigeria, Apostle PraiseGod Otok on Wednesday, 24 January 2024.
In his speech, the Chairman who thanked the Rector and his team for the visit promised to ensure adequate security and a conducive environment for academic activities in the institution.
He also commended the institution for the scholarship offer to train 50 indigenes of Essien Udim in various fields their school and also thanked the State Director of Light Up Nigeria for the partnership and initiative to empower 900 indigenes of Essien Udim with business loans assuring them of the council’s commitment to ensure the successes of all their programmes.
According to the Rector, Merchant Seaman Academy is a career academy geared towards human capital development adding that the institution was established and registered in May 2014 under Decree 1 of 1999 by the CAC and fully approved, accredited and licensed in May, 2015 by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigerian Merchant Navy (NMN), International Maritime Organization (IMO) among others.
He stated that the institution in partnership with Light Up Nigeria is offering tuition free admission to 50 indigent students from Essien Udim for a 2-year course in the school on Security Management & Technology; Shipping Management; Marine Engineering and Welding & Fabrication.
He noted that “on the completion of their two years training, the institution will hand them over to Light Up Nigeria Project to sponsor their trip overseas into the global professional, varying sectors to exhibit their professionalism and make hard currency in their earnings as articulated in Light Up Nigeria graduation will be handed over to Light Up Nigeria”
The Proprietor who said that prospective candidates must have at least 5 credits in SSCE including Maths and English Language urged interested candidates from Essien Udim to come for the screening and selection exercise for the programme on 9th February 2024 at the Council Secretariat, Afaha Ikot Ebak. He enjoined candidates to come with the sum of three thousand naira (N3000), original and photocopies of their credentials, passport and must appear in white short, white T-Shirt and white canvas.
On his part, the State Focal person for Light Up Nigeria Project, Apostle PraiseGod Otok commended the Transition Chairman, Dr Anthony Luke for Keying into the project and assured him of organization’s integrity and ingenuity in ensuring that the 900 individuals who will apply for the loan facilities are carried along accordingly.
He enjoined interested individuals to obtain the application form from the local government representative, fill and return same without delay as the loan disbursement will commence between January and February 2024.
