Essien Udim Council Chairman, PDP stakeholders back Governor Udom Emmanuel’s succession plans
The Essien Udim Council Chairman and Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have resolved to support Governor Udom Emmanuel’s completion agenda and succession plans ahead of 2023 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State.
The resolution was reached on Thursday, 9th Seoptember, 2021 during the inauguration of Essien Udim Local Government Chapter of Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) steering Committee.
In his address of welcome, the Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke commended Governor Udom Emmanuel’s peaceful disposition which according to him culminated in the enduring peace in the state.
He thanked the Governor specially for his prompt intervention to restore peace and order in Essien Udim which was invaded by hoodlums who unleashed terror on the people.
According to the Essien Udim council chairman, the peaceful atmosphere in Akwa Ibom is because of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s body language and commitment to security of lives and property of the people.
The Council helmsman stated that Essien Udim people are known for their integrity and sincerity of purpose, stressing that the Governor has nothing to worry about his succession plans as the people have already taken their stand with him.
He maintained that Essien Udim people will stand by the governor to complete his eight years successfully and also pledged to support whoever the governor will support to succeed him so as to consolidate on his legacy of peace in the state.
“The governor does not need to ask Essien Udim people for support in his Completion Agenda and succession plans in 2023 as we have already taken our stand to support him to succeed.
“Essien Udim people have already resolved that whoever Governor Udom Emmanuel will choose as his successor same will be the choice of Essien Udim people.
“We will reciprocate the Governor’s goodwill to Essien Udim people by ensuring that the Governor lands well in his succession plans,” the council Chairman assured.
While Inaugurating the steering Committee, the State Coordinator of MPM and PDP National Legal Adviser, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem stated that Maintain Peace Movement is a PDP group canvassing support for Governor Udom Emmanuel’s completion agenda and succession plan in 2023.
The former Commissioner stated that MPM primary goal is to maintain, sustain and perpetuate peace in Akwa Ibom State.
According to him peace remains the legacy of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.
He urged the people of Essien Udim to give peace a chance for sustainable development to take place in the area, stressing that no meaningful development can take place in the atmosphere of rancour and chaos.
Barr EnoIdem who also represented Governor Emmanuel at the occasion called on the people to go out enmasse and register to be eligible to vote in the 2023 general elections and to also exploit the online registration platform made available by PDP to register and become members of the umbrella party.
The Essien Udim steering Committee has the State Commissioner for Investment, Barr Prince Ukpong Udo Akpabio as Coordinator and Engr Oliver Ebong as Secretary while the Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke, Barr Imo-owo Okpokpo, House of Assembly member, Hon Esse G. Umoh and the Chapter Chairman of PDP, Mr Cyril Peter Udoh are members.
Other members of the committee are Hon Nsini Umanah, Rt Hon Martins Umanah, Obonganwan Mfon Udoima, Hon Rose Thompson, the Chairman, Essien Udim Youth Caucus, Mr Udim Awah while the political leader of the area, Obong Akparawa M. A. Afangideh; Abom E. E. E. P. Umanah, Mr Emem Akpabio, Hon Suyiekekere Inokon are to serve as advisers for the committee.
In his acceptance speech, the Essien Udim Coordinator of the group, Barr Prince Ukpong Akpabio, thanked the Governor for finding him fit to steer the boat of peace in Essien Udim and commended the quest for peace and tranquility in the state.
The Commissioner thanked the Governor for his love for Essien Udim people and assured him that the people will pay back for the love by supporting his succession plans.
He promised to consolidate on the Governor’s gains in peace building and vowed to sustain the peace in Essien Udim.
The Commissioner stated that Essien Udim had entered a covenant with the PDP in 2019 and will never renege in that agreement.
He added that Essien Udim people are partners in Governor Emmanuel’s completion agenda and succession plans and assured that they will not let the governor down in 2023.
In their separate goodwill messages, the political leader of Essien Udim, Obong Akparawa M. A. Afangideh and Mr Emem Akpabio commended the governor’s peace initiative and pledged the support of Essien Udim people to the governor’s completion agenda.
Akpabio particularly described Essien Udim as the “votes basket of Akwa Ibom” and assured the party of massive support in 2023.
