Essien Udim Chairman’s wife tasks female students on passion, harps on sex education
The Wife of Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mrs Umoh Gabriel Tony-Udoh has tasked female students to remain focus and passionate in the pursuit of their dreams in life.
The Chairman’s wife gave the charged when she played host to the students and staff of Notre Dame Girls Secondary School, Urua Edet Obo, Essien Udim LGA who paid her a courtesy visit as part of the school’s Silver Jubilee celebrations.
The Chairman’s wife challenged the students to think outside the box and not allow their gender to be a barrier for them to achieve their set goals in life but rather should rise beyond the limitations of gender inequalities.
She advised the students not to also allow peer pressure, social, environmental, cultural influences among others to distract them in pursuing their dreams but should rather be passionate and work hard to succeed.
She said: “You can excel in any career you choose for yourself with passion and hard work.
“It does not really matter what career you’ve chosen for yourself but what matters is the passion to actualise your ambition in life.
“You can do well as a medical doctor, a lawyer, an engineer, a politician, a fashion designer, a nurse, a trader, an administrator, a farmer and so on. It does not matter what profession you settle for, what matters is you succeeding in it.
“Look inward you all have abilities, develop it, nurture and pursue it with all your might and passion you’ll succeed.
“You can be what you want to be if believe in yourself and pursue it with passion.
“Do not allow others to define you rather define yourself.
“Don’t also allow anyone to despise you because you are a girl child rather you should go beyond the limitations and boundaries set by the society for you to achieve your goals in life,” She advised.
The First Lady charged parents to build confidence in their children to be able to speak out when their rights are violated, maintaining that they should not be intimidated by their male counterpart but should rather see themselves as equal before God.
The Chairman’s wife called parents to ensure that their children’s rights are protected and that they are properly empowered and equipped with the requisite education and information to help build confidence to defend themselves.
While urging them to introduce sex education to their children at early stage of life to arm them with the necessary information to fight abuses and aso abstain from illicit sexual intercourse which may ruin their brighter future, Mrs Udoh enjoined parents to pay attention to their children’s welfare.
The Chairman’s wife noted that she will continue to support her husband to ensure that Essien Udim women benefit from his administration lamenting the recent security breaches in the area which has caused some set back to the administration.
She adding that women and children’s interest is paramount in her husband’s administration.
In her remarks, the leader of the delegation and Head, Department of Languages, Notre Dame Girls Secondary School, Essien Udim, Mrs Eno O. Etim commended the Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke and the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for their prompt intervention to restore peace and sanity to the area which was ravaged by the recent security crisis.
According to her, the crisis would have disrupted academic activities in the institution but not for the Chairman’s proactive and courageous leadership.
She presented the school’s silver jubilee customized uniform to the Chairman’s wife, Mrs Umoh Gabriel Tony-Udoh and also extended invitation to her to attend the graduation ceremony and 25th anniversary celebration of the institution.
