Education Intervention: Akwa Ibom School lauds NDDC over improved Academics
The Community Secondary Grammar School, Ebugho, in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for helping to improve the quality of academics and results of its students.
The school’s principal, Mr. Ime Harry Akpabio, who spoke in an interview in his office, said that NDDC built a new staff quarters, science laboratory and other supporting facilities, making it possible for more National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members to be engaged in the school for the benefit of the students.
The principal remarked that before the NDDC intervention, the school was short of teachers, stating that the morale of staff was boosted with the provisions of living quarters and classrooms by the NDDC.
Akpabio said: “The School has over 30 youth corps members handling different courses from mathematics, sciences and arts. Before now the school hardly had teachers to handle the core subjects. But because of the good accommodations, they’re jumping over themselves to serve in the school.”
He added: “This has impacted on the performance of our students in external examinations such as WAEC and NECO and the future looks brighter for our school and students.”
The principal however appealed to NDDC to do more for the school by building a perimeter fence, noting: “The safety of the students and staff is of great importance.”
