Worried by the deteriorating political climate in Edo State, the United States of America Government has expressed disappointment with the activities and the role played by some political actors in the state.
The U.S stated this in a press release made available to the press said the US will only supports a democratic process where the will of the Nigerian people is reflected in the results, and does not favor any party or candidate.
The U.S is also concerned with allegations of interference by security forces in political matters, and pledged to monitor closely in the run up to Governorship elections in the State in September.
All stakeholders, including INEC, political parties, and the security services are encouraged to continue to improve the electoral process.
In a build up to the September 19 Edo State governorship election, the campaign activities by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have been characterized by violence and crisis.
Recently, the seven members loyal to the incumbent governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki impeached the deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly who had refused to decamped t the PDP with the governor.
In another development the seventeen members loyal to the former governor and former National Chairman of APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole also ganged up and impeached the speaker of the House.
This development has led to some serious crisis and pandemonium in the state resulting in the Police taking over the assembly complex.
