EARCOM boss sues for peace in Akwa Ibom warring communities
…lauds A’ Ibom First Lady
The Executive Chairman of the Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM, Akwa Ibom State, Dr Dorothy Thompson has charged warring communities in Mbo Okobo and Ini Local Government Council’s to embrace peace and stop the senseless destruction of lives and property over boundary dispute.
Dr Dorothy who made the call while interacting with newsmen on the heels of the 2021 International Women’s Day Celebration also warned that, the Governor Udom Emmanuel led state government will no longer condone any act of lawlessness exhibited by individuals or group of persons to cause disunity in the state.
While condoling with victims of Communal clashes Dr Thompson described the boundary clashes as unfortunate, and
urged the people of the affected areas to shun violence and report every incident to the appropriate authority and not take laws into their hands.
The EARCOM Boss lauded Governor Emmanuel and for doing everything within his powers to protect the lives and property of the innocent citizens in collaboration with the security agencies and accordingly urged the people to give peace a chance.
In her words, “ as Akwa Ibom State, we are a people known for our cherished peace and stability. Violence and killings have no place in our culture and tradition.”
While calling on Traditional Rulers, Community leaders and religious leaders to preach peace , she also sued for synergy between them and security agencies to enforce law and order in their communities
Dr Thompson warned those she described as, ‘conflict merchants’, who seek to profit from violence by setting brothers upon brothers, inlaws upon inlaws, families upon families, and communities upon communities, to dezist from their evil schemes or they will soon be made to face the full wrath of the law.
She however expressed confidence that, appropriate steps would be taken to investigate and fish out the perpetrators of the reported violence in these communities and have them punished according to the law.
On the just concluded International Women’s Day, Dr Thompson hailed the Akwa Ibom State First Lady, Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel for her leadership role in organizing the Womenfolk and championing their welfare in the State.
She gave assurance that, EARCOM will continue to partner the Office of the First Lady, FEYReP the Ministry of Women Affairs and other relevant bodies to fight for gender equality and resist every form of gender based violence.
