Defamatory Publication: Enoidem demands retraction, N500million from Uwah within 48 hours
The Akwa Ibom North-West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s general elections, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem is not letting the alleged murder ‘story’ hung on his neck by his kinsman, Mr. Godson Uwah all hang out.
Rather, Enoidem has taken steps to clear his name, demanding a retraction of the defamatory post by Uwah on his Facebook account, payment of N500million for the damages to his integrity, and a publication of the renunciation in national newspapers, all within 48 hours of the receipt of the letter from his lawyers.
Acting on the instruction of Enoidem, a lawyer in the law firm of Enoidem & Associates, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan Esq,. in his brief dated September 26, 2022, and addressed to Uwah stated that he alleged in his post that, ‘‘it was on the morning of 23rd of October last year, that Barr. Emmanuel finally unleashed his thugs led by his P.A. Gideon Uwah to kill me at Etok Uruk Eshiet while on my way to visit my uncle, Apostle Christopher Uwah.’’
Akpan stated that the purpose of the publication is to soil the integrity of Enoidem, a distinguished legal practitioner, an accomplished politician, who has held several public offices in government and the PDP within and outside the state, a philanthropist, and recipient of several professional, academic, and social awards.
As of 10:23pm on Monday, September 26, 2022, Uwah’s allegations on his Facebook account had attracted 169 comments, with many rebuking him for accusing Enoidem of any murder attempt.
James Riches said; ‘this isn’t the best way to go about politics. You and I know the man you are accused of never did such a thing. Politics of blackmails, lies and propaganda is not the best. There is no harm in parting ways with your former boss politically, but do not subject him to public ridicule, mbak awasi.’’
Ime Ekanem told Uwah that PDP is the solution to his problem and Enoidem is the answer. ‘Come back home and stop wasting your time,’’ he said in his comment.
In her comment, Blessing Benson wrote,’ I’m sorry to say this Sir. I beg of you not to allow politics tear you and your brother apart.’’
Uwemedimo Udousoro found it difficult to believe the allegation, stating that it was not the kind of story he wanted to hear. ‘‘All those years you were enjoying Enoidem, he didn’t kill you.’’
