The Cross River State House of Assembly Youth and Sports Development Committee expressed total shock over the complete neglect and abandonment of all sports facilities by the previous administration, which led to the complete collapse of sports development in the state.
The House Committee, led by Rev. Mercy Akpama made the assertion when the House Sports Committee visited UJ Esuene Stadium on a fact-finding mission.
She use the chance to appeal to the Ministry to document everything as photographs or documentaries and send them to the Commission for urgent action.
Mrs. Akpama stated that “Our new government under the leadership of His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Otu is poised to reposition the sector to an enviable position, he wants to develop a fee for sports infrastructure in the state, he wants to develop outstanding sports facilities for the state” she stressed.
Also speaking the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youths and Sport, who received the House members, Ogboka Thomas said: “Now that the House Committee have come to see things for themselves. We are happy to see that good things will begin to come”
“We will be happy to include those things that were not captured in the budget” Ogboka stressed
The state Director of Sports, Mr. Moses Agbor Ita, expressed delight over the Lawmakers’ fact-finding visit, saying “He is so happy because that is what we have been expecting”.
Other House committee members who accompanied her during the visit include Hon. Omang Omang, Hon. Standley Nsemo, and Hon. Victor Nsa.
