Catholic Chaplaincy feeds inmates of Nigerian Correctional Service
As part of their humanitarian gestures, the Compassionate Family in collaboration with the Catholic Chaplaincy of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abuja fed prison inmates of Dukpa Farm Centre, Gwagwalada
The exercise according to organisers is part of the Feed a Prisoner Easter Outreach to mark the 2023 Easter.
Speaking with Newsmen, the National Chaplain Catholic Chaplaincy of Nigerian Correctional Services Rev. Fr. Victor Nyoroh, stated that the initiative is in obedience to the biblical command in Matthew chapter 25 verse 35, which reads “WHEN I WAS HUNGRY AND IN PRISON YOU VISITED ME.
In his word: “Once again, the correctional center (Prison) has been shown to be a place of hope and the possibility of redemption through compassion, love and kindness. All this is possible through paths of faith, work and professional formation, but above all of spiritual closeness as demonstrated by the compassionate family.
“”On Easter Monday, the catholic chaplaincy of the Nigerian Correctional Services, the Compassionate Family feeds prison inmates in a tradition of giving back to society, through examplery demonstration of christ-like virtues at easter to relieve the joy and essence of the season. Beyond donation of valuable items, consumables and other relief materials to the inmates of Dukpa Correctional Centre, first time guests were thrilled to discover this facility with lots to eat and drink.””
“The purpose of this very outreach today, is to celebrate the resurrection of Christ with those who haven’t the opportunity of celebration infact those that are confined, those that are in prison, they have no avenue of celebrating with their families or their homes under freedom.
“We fill we should bring the message of love, of Christ resurrection of new life for a better tomorrow.
“”Infact the message is a message of Joy and Hope that Christ is risen and he’s risen for us to be alive today, if he had not die for us, we wouldn’t have been free on account of that, it gives you hope that behind every Cross there’s a resurrection infact the shadow of the Cross is a resurrection, the shadow of the grave is new life we are bringing that message to them to show that while they are in prison, they are forgotten they not abandon.
“It is a celebration of new life, new beginning and second chance. As a matter of fact, some inmates regained their freedom”
The Chaplaincy acknowledged efforts by the COMPASSIONATE FAMILY FOR PRISONERS CAREGIVERS, HUMANITARIANS, PHILANThROPISTS AND OTHER CHRISTIANS who contributed immensely to the success of this annual milk of kindness did not go without fervent prayers for god’s replenishment and blessings.
The outreach had several groups in attendance including Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), the members of the Compassionate Family.
Appeal was also made to well meaning nigerians to imbibe the spirit of been their brothers keeper through meaningful contributions that would help ameliorate suffering.
