Campus Security: Federal Polytechnic, Ukana to collaborate with Nigeria Police Force
The Management of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Akwa Ibom State, and the Nigeria Police Force, Ikot Ekpene have agreed to collaborate in order to enhance the security of lives and property in the Polytechnic.
This was made known during a familiarization visit on the Acting Rector Dr. Mrs. Mercy Ebong, Wednesday by members of the Nigeria Police Force, Ikot Ekpene led by ACP Adamu D. Damji at the Acting Rector’s office in the Main Campus of the Polytechnic.
ACP Adamu who is the 22nd Area Commander , Nigerian Police Force, Ikot Ekpene, said he deemed it necessary to pay a courtesy call on the Acting Rector Dr. Mrs. Ebong to familiarize with the Polytechnic Management and also work with them to ensure maximum security of lives and property on campus, noting that the present situation of the country is critical, therefore the Polytechnic needs collaborative policing to ensure the safety of students, staff and property.
He summited that community policing within the campus would help strengthen security on campus, and stressed the need for collaborative efforts between the Police and the Polytechnic.
Reacting, the Acting Rector Dr. Mrs. Mercy Ebong, commended the Area Commander for deeming it necessary to pay a visit to the Polytechnic with a sole purpose of rolling out modalities to increase surveillance within and around the campus which will in turn safeguard lives and property of the institution.
She affirmed that the importance of community policing can never be over emphasized, thereby assuring them of the Polytechnic’s full support to ensure the sustenance of peace within and outside the campus.
In her words, “i thank you for coming and i must confessed that the Polytechnic had always worked with the Nigerian police. So wherever there is an area of collaboration, the Polytechnic will not hesitate to collaborate with you, to ensure that there is peace within and outside”.
In a vote of thanks, the Registrar of the Polytechnic Dr. Okon J. Ekanem, appreciated the member of the Nigerian Police Force, Area command Ikot Ekpene for prioritizing the safety of staff and students of the Polytechnic, he asked to bless them and reassured them of the Polytechnic’s position to collaborate with them.
