2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day: ALUKO, Akpabio bring succour to widows of fallen heroes
The Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mr. Anthony Luke has provided succour to widows of the fallen heroes of Nigeria under the auspices of Widows of Nigerian Legion.
The Chairman, who presented cash gifts and wrappers to the widows during the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration on Saturday, 15th January 2022 at Afaha Ikot Ebak, said his administration is poised to ensure improved welfare of the wives of the Nigerian fallen heroes and Nigerian Legion in Essien Udim.
He commended the different security formations in the area for their sacrifices and effort to ensure the return of peace and normalcy back to Essien Udim while praying for the repose of the souls of some security operatives who lost their lives during the crisis.
Luke who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Umoh Gabriel Tonyudoh lauded Governor Emmanuel for his timely intervention and provision of the necessary logistics and moral support used in prosecuting the war against hoodlums who invaded the area.
According to him, “it took the swift response and intervention of Governor Udom Emmanuel, the leadership of Essien Udom Local Government Area, the cooperation of the police and other security agencies as well as concerned people of Essien Udim, to bring the scary situation under control. It is therefore to the glory of God that we gather here today as a people in an atmosphere of peace,
“May I express the committed resolve of the government of Essien Udim under my humble leadership to continue to interact with the executives of the Essien Udim Area Council of the Nigerian Legion in order to make an informed and significant intervention towards addressing the welfare concerns of our ex-servicemen within the bounds of our capacity.
“Sometime last year, the vast Essien Udim community was engulfed in serious security threats never witnessed in recent history. These threats perpetrated by unknown gunmen had unsettled the people and residents of this area and had evoked in us the Nigeria civil war experience.
In his goodwill message to the Nigerian Legion in Essien Udim, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Barr Prince Ukpong Akpabio who canvassed support to Nigerian Legion noted that they have played a significant role in maintaining peace and the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
Barr Prince Ukpong Akpabio also supported the legion with some funds and bags of rice.
He commended the council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke for his care and love towards widows of the fallen heroes of Nigeria and pledged to always identify with the women and the association to bring succour to them.
In his speech, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Essien Udim, Warrant Officer Aniekan Nya thanked the council Chairman for his numerous supports to the body in the area and solicited more supports especially to the widows of the fallen heroes
