Akwapoly: Rector assures staff of Gov. Emmanuel’s determination to clear all outstanding arrears/harmonization
In his avowed determination to ensure industrial harmony, staff welfare and a condusive working environment, the Rector, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, (Akwapoly), Dr Moses Umobong, on Thursday had an interactive session with all Staff of the Polytechnic where he assured them of the determination of Governor Udom Emmanuel to ensure that all outstanding arrears and harmonization benefits of all Polytechnic workers are paid and promptly too.
Addressing the staff at the Polytechnic’s Assembly Hall on Thursday, Dr Umobong said the peaceful protest earlier embarked upon by aggrieved staff on Wednesday was legitimate and lawful, but assured that the delay in the payment is in no way an indication of insensitivity on the part of the state government, assuring that the Governor had already given express approval for the payment of all outstanding benefits to all Polytechnic staff, a directive he said, the office of the State Accountant General has already set in machineries in motion to implement the “Executive Directive” of His Excellency.
He commended staff for their peaceful disposition, assuring that his administration will do all in it’s powers to ensure that the remaining staff who are yet to get their harmonization benefits get what is due to them as soon as possible. Dr Umobong promised to facilitate an interface meeting comprising of some members of all the Unions of the Polytechnic with officials of the relevant state government agencies next week Monday towards ensuring transparency, accountability and proper information management as a means to ensuring prompt payment of workers benefits so as to achieve sustainability of the prevailing industrial peace and harmony for greater efficiency and productivity.
The meeting has in attendance Principal officers of the Polytechnic, Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments as well as other staff of the Polytechnic.
