Akwa Ibom RAAMP Coordinator Bags Sustainable Grassroots Development Award
Akwa Ibom State Project Coordinator of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, AKS-RAAMP, Pastor Gideon Akpan has been conferred with an award for Sustainable Grassroots Development.
The conferment was at the instance of the Special Assistant on Logistics to the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, during a Regional Stakeholders Summit on the theme “Strengthening Local Governance for Sustainable Grassroots Development” organised for the South South and South East regions at Enugu, the Enugu state capital.
An ordained Apostle in the Apostolic Church Nigeria, currently serving as the Area Superintendent, Ikot Isong Area in Etinan Field, Pastor Gideon Akpan is a Geologist and holds a Post Graduate Diploma, PGD in Environmental Management and a Masters Degree in Development Planning. He is widely trained in Donor Funded Project Coordination and Management, currently serving as the State Project Coordinator of the World Bank and French Development Agency funded RAAMP in Akwa Ibom State.
A statement by the event organisers, congratulated Pastor Akpan on the feat and enumerated a number of attainments by the awardee to justify the conferment.
The statement described as satisfactory the awardee’s stewardship while he was in charge of planning, implementation and monitoring the provision of potable water across the 31 Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom State, funded by the State Government, under the Akwa Ibom State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, AKRUWATSAN.
He had also served as Sanitation Officer under the EU/UNICEF Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program in Nsit Atai and Obot Akara Local Government Areas as well as the Water Supply Officer and Head – Water Resources Department of AKRUWATSAN.
Pastor Gideon Akpan is currently the Project Coordinator for Akwa Ibom State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, AKS-RAAMP – planning and implementation of designs, construction and supervision of more than 200km of rural roads for accessibility to farms and markets across the state.
He is furthermore involved in capacity building and development of human resources among a cross section of rural development projects and a good support system for the achievement of the ARISE agenda of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The statement submitted that “above all, the recipient has been roundly observed for his dedication to the transformation of people of the rural community in his evangelism activities as a pastor, residing in the rural community to engage youths, women and the elderly in positive and divine kingdom lifestyles to the Glory of God.”
Responding to the award, Pastor Gideon Akpan thanked the presidency for the honour done him and further glowing tributes to the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno; past administrations in the state as well as The Apostolic church authorities for granting him the opportunity to serve, adding that the recognition would further energise him to be more committed and dedicated to serve humanity.
