Akwa Ibom: Perilous times await perpetrators of crimes as police record more victories against criminals

The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has warned that Perilous times await proponents and perpetrators criminal activities in the state going by the success of it’s operations in recent times.
The Commissioner of Police, CP AMIENGHEME ANDREWS gave the warning in a press statement in Uyo.
According to CP AMIENGHEME ANDREW, the resilience of the Command has again paid off as the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command have busted another kidnapping syndicate.
Barely a week ago Operatives of the Force Intelligence Special Tactical Squad in the State, in a well coordinated operation, supervised by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, CP AMIENGHEME ANDREW, smashed a four man kidnapping syndicate.
The syndicate included one Chigozie Friday Izima ‘m’, aged 29yrs; Ibe Amadi Chizom ‘m’, aged 35yrs; and Ifeanyi Onuoha ‘m’, aged 40yrs, who abducted one Onyeka Oliver Ezewulu ‘m’, aged 36yrs, at Idoro Road in Uyo and collected a ransom of N2M, after killing the victim.
They met their waterloo during a gun duel with the Police, leading to the recovery of two (2) rifles with thirty-six (36) rounds of live ammunition, one Camry Vehicle and a GSM phone belonging to the victim.
The police also arrested one Deborah Abraham Sunday ‘f’, aged 46yrs, a neighbour to the victim who co-masterminded the kidnap and confessed to have being promised the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000.00) to pay her house rent.
The operation also led to the exhumation of the victim who was buried in a shallow grave at Mbiaso, Nsit Ibom L.G.A on 29th March, 2021.
Investigation revealed that same syndicate was responsible for the kidnap of one Barrister Ime Sampson ‘m’, aged 56 years old on 31st December, 2020 at about 9 pm, collecting the sum of 2.6 million as ransom.
On 18th March, 2021 at about 10am, one Blessing Gift Ekpo ‘f’, 30 years old of Ukana Ikot Akpantea village, Essien Udim L.G.A, a resident of Molyko-Buea, Republic of Cameroon was kidnapped on her way to Oron by Armed Sea Pirates.
A painstaking investigation led to the arrest of one Ezekiel Ogbodiye ‘m’, 33 years of age, of Asamabiri village, Salga in Yenagoa, who collected the ransom, John Benimo ‘m’, 40yrs of age, of Okubebie, Salga, both in Bayelsa State, and Christian Bassey ‘m’, 21yrs of age of Ibiono Ibom L.G.A, a resident of Akpan Ikang Itak Edak fishing port, Oron L.G.A, who was the ransom negotiator.
The sum of one million, two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N1, 250,000.00) was recovered from them. suspects will be charged to court.
Similarly, on 6/4/2021, personnel of Ikot Udota Division, relying on credible intelligence, apprehended one David Victor Ubong ‘m’ of Ibaka, Mbo L.G.A.
Suspect confessed to be one of the inmates who escaped from the Nigerian Correctional Service in the recent jail break at Owerri, Imo State on 5/4/2021. Until his conviction, the suspect was a resident of Obinze in Owerri, Imo State. Suspect will be sent back to face his jail term.
On the security situation in Essien Udim L.G.A, the CP wish to inform the good people of Akwa Ibom State that successes have been recorded and that a mop up security operation is still ongoing in the affected area.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officers, SP Odiko MacDon urged residents of the and area and environs to remain calm and be security conscious as Security Agencies will continue to do their best to restore peace, law and order in the affected area and around the State.
