Akwa Ibom Governor’s wife applauds outgoing WALGON for empowering constituents
The wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, has applauded the outgoing wives of Local Government Chairmen for the various empowerment programmes they embarked upon at the grassroots during their 3-year tenure.
Dr. Emmanuel gave the commendation, Friday, when she received in audience, Wives of All Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria WALGON, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, who were on a Thank-You visit to her office.
She said the tenure of their husbands’ as chief executive at the grassroots which expires in few weeks, provided opportunity for them to touch lives, saying she is proud to have worked with them.
The first lady specially appreciated the women for not abusing their roles as partners in progress at the grassroots, saying they complemented their husbands’ efforts in the delivery of leadership in their various domains.
“As wives of chairmen of the respective local government areas in the state, I must commend you all for a job well done in these past three years. Most of you emulated me in character and deeds and that gives me so much joy as a mother. As your husbands’ tenure ends in few weeks, I encourage you not to stop doing good, keep up the good work and God will keep replenishing you,” she remarked.
Speaking further, Dr. Emmanuel advised the women not to hold any grudge against any individual while their husbands’ tenure lasted, saying forgiveness and love are the ultimate commandments given by God to man.
“I am aware that during the course of your husbands’ tenure, you may have had conflict of interest while discharging your duties, this is the time to forgive and let go of it. You must not hold any grudge against anyone. Let love lead you all,” Dr. Emmanuel admonished.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Mrs. Maria-Therese Robson, who is the wife of the Executive Chairman of Esit Eket local government area, in her remarks, appreciated the governor’s wife for granting them audience despite her very busy schedule.
She said they were on the visit to thank the governor’s wife whom she described as God’s gift to the women and the people of Akwa Ibom state for working harmoniously with them these past three years.
Mrs. Robson noted that out of the twenty nine (29) wives of chairmen, seven (7) are returning by the grace of God after Saturday’s election, saying they will be ever ready to continue working with her to touch more lives.
As part of the thank-you visit, the women donated over 200 wrappers to the governor’s wife to assist her in her humanitarian service to widows and other vulnerable persons across the state.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey, while congratulating the women for a job well done, said they followed the footsteps of the their mother very well. She expressed optimism that the incoming wives of chairman would follow suit in discharging selfless service.
