Akwa Ibom Economic Development Commissioner tasks LG Chairmen on routine inspection of EU Projects
Local Government Chairmen in Akwa Ibom State have been urged to collaborate with their Head of Department, Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics and the Department of International Cooperation in the Ministry of Economic Development, to facilitate inspection of all EU project sites and complete the template for onward submission to Federal Ministry of Finance,and Budget and National Planning / EU headquarters in Abuja.
The Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr Emem Bob gave the charge during a stakeholder meeting on the European Union programme at the conference room of the Ministry.
The Commissioner stated that such collaboration would help Akwa Ibom to benefit in the next round of the EU project implementation.
Mr Bob explained that the stakeholders meeting was to brief the benefitting local government chairmen on the recent activities of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning in collaboration with European Union on the infrastructural projects implemented in various communities across the state.
He said so far, about 476 micro-projects have been implemented across the state from 2000 till date, stating that the EU program was aimed at improving the delivery of social and economic services and sensitizing communities to demand good governance through community participatory planning and development.
Mr Bob appealed for continuous mentenance of the projects for longevity.
The commissioner on behalf of Governor Umo Eno thanked the EU and the Federal government for taking life-touching projects to the rural areas for the optimal benefit of the people.
The Chairman of Esit Eket and Chairman of ALGON, Mr Iniobong Robson promised to take advantage of the projects and to protect it from vandals.
The Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr Emem Bob also played host to a team from the National Economic Council, who are in Akwa Ibom to assess the impact of the 2022/2023 flood in the State and offer assistance to affected States.
At the meeting, Mr Bob assured the team of partnership and support for them to succeed, reiterating that Akwa Ibom State Government is already taking measures to address the flood disaster in the state.
