COVID-19 palliatives are here again. In fulfillment of his promise to continue to provide succor to the poorest-of-the-poor in the state; the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has approved the release of a second round of COVID-19 palliatives for distribution.
According to a statement from the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Udoh, the palliatives will be distributed to all citizens and residents in about 3,000 villages across the state on a village-by-village basis, comprise rice, garri, beans, noodles, pasta, palm oil, salt and sugar.
“This is part of the continuous quest of Akwa Ibom State Government to ameliorate the economic hardship occasioned by the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as it affects means of livelihood.
“Chairmen of the Palliative Committees in each Local Government Area that handled the first round of distribution are invited to a flag-off meeting with the Secretary to the State Government, today, July 11, 2020 at 11am in the Banquet Hall, Government House.
Recall, that the palliative distribution committee; earlier inaugurated in each Local Government Area is led by an Honorable Commissioner or the Chairman of the Local Government Council where there is no Commissioner.
“Other members include the Paramount Ruler, House of Assembly Member, the Local Government Chairman, Representatives Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Inter Party Advisory Council Nigeria (IPAC), Youths and Women.
“Citizens and residents are enjoined to cooperate with government during the exercise, as they continue to abide by all COVID-9 preventive guidelines.”
