Nsit Atai and the Return of Cultism
Cultism in Nsit Atai has always been an open secret affair. At some point, it was almost elevated as some sort of qualification for being successful in politics and at other times, it was revered as a decision making mechanism.Nsit Atai and Return of Cultism
Prior to the 2017 Local government elections, cultism was a secret affair. However, in that year, a well know cultist was sponsored for the top job in the local government by top ranking politicians who are still influential till date. It took the intervention of the then party leadership in the state to nip that aspiration in the bud.
Till date, these influential cabal are still taking decisions and recommending people for appointments, thus making their candidates to become automatic suspects benefiting from the evil of cultism.
During the 2018 general elections, some powerful cultists who had interest in some positions reeled out orders that other aspirants should not campaign in some places considered to be their stronghold. The failure on the part of those aspirants to heed the warnings led to a brutal encounter between the agents of a powerful cult group and the police, and this resulted in the death of two persons and loss of properties worth millions of naira. Sadly, such known sponsors of mayhem of that magnitude are still justling for positions and may likely be allowed in the nearest future.
The latest show of shame is the conflict between two cult groups in the local government. Our source gave the names of the warring groups as Luttucks and Red Skin. It is alleged that a certain member of Luttucks in Nsit Atai who travelled to another environment in search of greener pasture joined Red Skin in his new environment. On his return, he continued to hobnob with his new group, abandoning Luttucks.
Luttocks then attacked him for abandoning them and that resulted in a brawl which the father of one of the notorious kingpins attempted to settle but to no avail.
The situation degenerated to a point where cultists paraded the streets of Odot openly in a broad daylight without fear. It took the timely intervention of the Police for the situation to be put under control.
It could be recalled that during the last elections, many people were injured by some of these young men who have chosen violence as a lifestyle.
In the meantime, the Leader of Luttucks who is a petty trader at the local government headquarters is at large just like his counterpart in Red skin.
As at the time of filling this report, police were still seen patrolling everywhere within Odot Community and its environs.
