Anthony Luke inaugurates Essien Udim Market Revenue Committee, charges members to discharge their duties with human dignity
The Executive Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mr Anthony Luke has inaugurated the Essien Udim Market Revenue Committee with a charge for them to respect human rights in the discharge of their duties.
The Committees formed were Urua Akpan and Obo Annang Markets.
Inaugurating the committee at the Council’s Conference room today, the Chairman said the committee has enormous task of generating funds internally for the council in order to achieve the administration’s lofty programmes.
He enjoined those collecting illegal ticketing and touting in the markets to desist from such act or be ready to face the law.
The council helmsman urged them to shun violent behaviour, in-fighting and bickering and adopt the best approach in discharging their duties in the market.
Luke charged them to ensure security and safety of the traders by ensuring that the roads are cleared from vehicular traffic and illegal packing in and around the markets.
“We will not tolerate roadside trading in any of those markets. We must clear the roads and ensure saftey of the traders and commuters,” he remarked.
He promised to provide a functional motor park, borehole water and lavatory in Obo Annang market and also promised to fix the water at Urua Akpan to service the market.
While congratulating members of the committees he charged them to exhibit high level of behaviour and human dignity as the council representatives in the market.
He charged them to protect government properties in the market as he also promised to beef up security in and around the markets.
