Rescheduled Okigwe Senatorial Election and corruption within us
I got a call from a highly placed Imolite last saturday, seeking for my support of one of the top candidates for the RESCHEDULED Okigwe Senatorial election on Saturday, December 5, 2020. He told me that the candidate wanted to speak with me on his phone .
In no uncertain terms, I told him not to bother preaching to a man, whose mind is already made up and who is not easily cajoled.
I asked him to put the phone on speaker so that his candidate can listen to what I was about to say . I told him that firstly, I do not believe in party politics in Nigeria because all the parties are the same . I then went on to list principled and equity based reasons why I will never support his candidate.
What angered me most was that he outlined silly reasons why the other candidates are bad . He claimed that the one they cheated in his former party was his man, but added that he has no money or structure to run for the election.
He also claimed that the other major candidate cannot go to the Senate because he has been there before. But this guy forgot that the two people he laboured so lamely to malign actually offered comparatively better representation to Okigwe people during their time in the national assembly.
The reason why Nigeria, Imo state and Okigwe Zone is in a mess today is because a majority of us placed emphasis on roguish politics over quality representation.
How you know those, who are principled and truly support a candidate altruistically is that they invest both their time, intellectual and personal financial resources mobilising support for their preferred candidate.
There are many political ocho passengers in Okigwe Zone and Imo state today. They are seeking for whom to steal from, devour and kill under the pretense of supporting them.
If you are amongst those, who contrive deceitful schemes to extort monies from aspirants and candidates in order to support them or to help fund their booth army or work for them to win elections you are a THIEF. You are a ROGUE. Stop parading yourself as a leader in your borrowed agbada. You are a common THIEF, who exploit others to line your filthy and miserable life. True Leaders use their resources to support those, they prefer.
Contented, honourable and self respecting men and women will not collect such monies even if you freely offered it to them or cajole them to receive it .
We can never build a decent society with this class of men and women in positions of authority and leadership across Nigeria as party , religious and community leaders.
This is why I encourage every decent Nigerian to join a political party today. Stop staying away. Let’s all join together to shame and kick out these shameless rogues and extortionist masquerading as political leaders .
