Before You Commence Consultations for 2023

There’s a trend and a pattern that has made public office “worth dying for” or in our popular parlance “a do-or-die affair”. People are willing to consult and invoke diabolical powers and even kill to get into elective offices. The simple reason is that the moment you get into such an office, “You are made”.
This is so because public money has over the years been converted to private money that is shared with no regards to transparency and accountability.
But the music is changing – at least in Akwa Ibom State.

Imagine:
1. Organisations like Policy Alert and Budgit have done a forensic analysis of the Auditor General’s report for 2019 and the revelations are mind boggling.

2. Policy Alert and other organisations are doing forensic analysis of constituency projects for 2020, and the questions raised with respect to demanding specifics on projects, locations, cost, contractors, etc. are bound to keep the House Of Assembly Members shaking and quaking.

3. Office Of The Citizen of Akwa Ibom State in partnership with Policy Alert, Budgit, CLO, and other NGOs, CDAs, FBOs, Youth Groups, Women Groups, NUJ and NLC are undertaking an unprecedented awareness creation and analysis of AKS2021 Budget to ensure that what’s eventually passed makes sense as the present drafty is totally unacceptable to ALLour partners.
After passage of the budget, we shall go ahead to set up the implementation, monitoring, and tracking platforms (IMTP), and will sustain this pressure on every budget till 2023.
The aim is to ensure that never again will our common patrimony be treated as anyone’s private venture.
Consequent upon the above therefore, public offices must become OPEN, TRANSPARENT and ACCOUNTABLE.
We shall use every legal and media platforms available (especially the SOCIAL MEDIA), to create the highest level of awareness especially in the rural areas because there must be a reason why we are where we are today – Nigeria as The Poverty Capital of The World, while Akwa Ibom, rightly or wrongly, is said to have the second highest rate of unemployment in the country.
SO,
Before you start nursing the ambition of running for any office in 2023, do yourself the favour of asking yourself what is motivating you.
If it is SACRIFICE AND SERVICE, then may the Lord grant your heart desires, but if it is greed and power, then perish the thought because “music don change”
