2020 Press Week: Governor Udom’s aide tasks journalists on constructive criticism
Journalists in Akwa Ibom State have been urged to imbibe the ethics of the profession by always engaging in constructive criticism in the course of their reportage.
The Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Media, Mr Uko Umoh, gave the admonition in Uyo when members of 2020 NUJ Press Week paid him a courtesy visit.
Mr Uko Umoh admitted that the media remain the watchdogs of the society, with a mandate to hold government accountable to the people but stressed the need for social responsibility journalism.
He solicited the support of journalists to Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration and cautioned against a calculated attempt to castigate the Office of the Governor and paint Governor Emmanuel in bad light.
The Publisher of Nigerian Pulse Newspaper expressed happiness at the honour accorded him by Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, stressing that he feels fulfilled to be recognized by the profession he has given young ones the platform to develop themselves.
He was full of praises to the state chairman of NUJ, Comrade Amos Etuk for his pragmatic leadership qualities, urging him to sustain his passion to improve the welfare o If Journalists in the state.
Mr Umoh pledged support for the success of the 2020 Press Week and confirmed his attendance at the week-long event.
In his remarks, the state chairman of NUJ Comrade Amos Etuk, described Mr Uko Umoh as one of the strongest media sponsors and front-runner of local media in Akwa Ibom State.
Comrade Etuk commended Mr Uko Umoh for his contributions to the development of Journalism in the state and for continuing to support the Union.
Earlier, the Chairman, NUJ 2020 Press Week, Comrade Nsibiet John, intimated the governor’s aide on the activities marking the Press Week and solicited for his support to make Week a success.
