Former SUG Presidents to partner UNIUYO on development
The Association of former Students’ Union Government Presidents, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has pledged to partner in developing the citadel of learning academically.
The Association further known as Great Tuskers made the pledge when they courtesy visited the institution’s Secretary to council who doubles as the Registrar, Mr Aniediabasi Udofia at the School’s permanent site, Nwaniba, Uyo, last Wednesday, 18th November, 2020.
Led by the Chairman, Akparawa Nse Ubeh stated that the group which is non-factional apolitical has decided to back-up the school academically and otherwise having been molded by the institution to be able to represent well in the larger society.
He said “we weathered the storm as students and as student leaders and now that we are in the society, we are back to energize the University; and as major stakeholders, to wade into matters and proffer solutions”.
Ubeh also appealed to the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities through the University of Uyo Governing Council to find a common ground for the about 9months strike to be called off in order to take the students off the streets which in turn will avert more problems and crises that may be caused them; to also enable lecturers continue to have a source of livelihood.
He commended the Registrar, Mr Aniediabasi Udofia for representing them well having made it into the Council.
Speaking too, Mr Ideh Owodiong expressed happiness that the University has continued to contribute to the society’s development through the students groomed and for not wavering even after 37years when he left the school.
Owodiong stated that the Tuskers have to be proud of themselves but must also go back to rebuild and recover the essence of UniUyo being her products. He said that the institution which has produced them to become excellent administrators in their various fields can also raise a Vice Chancellor from the Alumni to lead the institution whilst hinting that it has the potentials of being the best University in Nigeria.
Reacting, the Registrar, Aniediabasi Udofia said UniUyo will continue to be the reservoir that will feed the neighbouring states and uphold the being the manpower of the society. He commended the Tuskers for neither dimming nor quenching the fire ignited in them while being tutored and for stepping in to calm tension and supporting the emergence of the incoming Vice Chancellor.
Udofia urged the Alumni to support the institution by supporting research projects or sponsoring them. He promised to intimate the incoming Vice Chancellor of the Tuskers gesture and suggest a revisit to enable them to present their thoughts for formal consideration.
Present at the Courtesy Visit were the Registrar, Aniediabasi Udofia, Head of Administration, Registrar’s office, Mrs Imaobong Udom, Director Information and Public Relations, Mrs Blossom Okorie, Director, Police and Community Relations, Mr Mfonabasi Isaiah and Mr Ekerete Adiaiduo who represented the University’s Community.
On the Alumni team were: the Chairman, Akparawa Nse Ubeh, Mr Ideh Owodiong, Archibong Inyang, Akpakam Ukoh, Eyo Eminue, Ekopetop Uduk, Iboro Obot, Michael Effiom, Izonguwu Sampson, Lucky Inyang, Samuel Asua and Ekerette Adiaiduo.
