Scores Governor Emmanuel high on fight against COVID-19
Passes Vote of Confidence on Comrade Amos Etuk’s administration
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council has thrown its weight behind the ongoing forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC)
The forensic audit of the NDDC operations which was ordered by President Muhammad Buhari has come under attack and serious controversy but the NUJ believes that the exercise will help to reposition the agency for effective discharge of its mandate for the benefit of the Niger Delta people.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the state congress of the union jointly signed by the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk and the State Secretary, Comrade Dominic Akpan.
The union also commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for the improved health infrastructure in the state which has help in containing the dreaded novel coronavirus in the state.
The congress also lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for leading the fight against COVID-19 in the front and for adopting proactive measures in the management of the global pandemic.
While acknowledging the efforts of the state government in the area of infrastructure rehabilitation in public schools in Akwa Ibom State, the union however appealed to the authorities to do more by improving the infrastructures in schools in the rural areas in the state.
On the abandoned ring road projects in Uyo, the union appealed to the state governor to complete the section of the road crossing Information Drive or consider some remedial measures on the failed portions of the road to ease the suffering commuters curently faced on the road.
In the same way, the union appealed to the state government to facilitate the construction of Ikot Ekpene/Calabar-Itu-Odupani Highway to enhance easy flow of socio-economic activities instead of waiting for federal government while calling on Akwa Ibom State Government to set up a monitoring team to enforce the tax holiday granted traders and tricycles in the state to cushion the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.
The congress also passed a vote of confidence on the state executive committe of the union led by Comrade Amos Etuk for what they described as “superlative performance” in the last one year.
It will be recalled that the Comrade Amos Etuk-led administration of the Akwa Ibom State NUJ was sworn in on 2nd August 2019 and since then, according to the congress, the union has witnessed a paradigm shift in its administration and welfare of members.
The union distanced itself from the purported “Media” award organised by Ibom Dakkada Media Award stressing that NUJ has nothing to do with such award.
