Akwa Ibom LG Poll: PDP Youth Leaders Push for Emem Peter as Chairmanship Candidate in Esit Eket
Youth Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State have appealed to Governor Umo Eno and the party’s leadership to choose and endorse Hon. Emem Peter as the chairmanship candidate for Esit Eket Local Government Area in the upcoming local government council elections.
The announcement of the election date, set for October 26th, 2024, was made by the State Government during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting organized by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) in June.
Following a meeting at the State PDP secretariat in Atan Offot, Uyo, on Thursday, July 4, the PDP youths, representing the Forum of Chapter Youth Leaders in Akwa Ibom State, reiterated their support for Hon. Peter.
They emphasized that Hon. Emem Peter, the outgoing Chapter Youth Leader of the PDP in Esit Eket Local Government Area, who is from Zone B in the local government where the chairmanship position is zoned, is the most suitable candidate for the role.
The youths highlighted Hon. Peter’s academic qualifications in Government and Public Administration, as well as his unwavering dedication to the party.
They noted his previous experience as a Councillor and Leader of the Legislative Arm in Esit Eket Local Government Area from 2012 to 2015 as evidence of his commitment to public service.
The meeting, attended by the State PDP Youth Leader, Hon. Efremfon Umoh, outgoing Chapter Youth Leaders from the 31 local government areas, senatorial youth leaders, and senatorial chairmen of the PDP, addressed various issues impacting the role and future of PDP youth leaders in Akwa Ibom State.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the youths advocated for the equitable inclusion of outgoing Chapter Youth Leaders across the state in welfare packages and appointments within their respective local government areas.
They affirmed their allegiance to the PDP as a united political family and expressed their unwavering commitment to upholding the party’s values, particularly the ARISE Agenda of His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno.
