New Year: Essien Udim First Lady celebrates women in style
…As women rejoice with Gov Umo Eno over Supreme Court victory
The Essien Udim Council hall was filled to capacity on Friday, 12th January 2024 as Wife of the Chairman of Essien Udim Transition Committee, Dr (Mrs) Umoh Gabriel TonyUdoh celebrated the new year with women in style.
The colourful event which featured dance competition, prayer of supplication and thanksgiving to God for the new year and Governor Umo Eno’s Supreme Court victory is an annual event organised by the wife of the Chairman. The 2024 Essien Udim women get together was graced by the member representing Essien Udim State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Prince Ukpong Udoh Akpabio ll and wife, Ndifreke; wife of the State Commissioner for Power, Mrs Emem Camillus Umoh and other women stakeholders and women representatives across the various units and wards in Essien Udim LGA.
In her speech, the First Lady of Essien Udim, Dr (Mrs) Umoh Gabriel TonyUdoh thanked the women for their overwhelming support to Governor Umo Eno’s administration, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 gubernatorial elections and their continuous faith and prayers throughout the court processes describing the governor’s victory at the Supreme Court as a confirmation both of the perfect will of God and the irrefutable choice of Akwa Ibom people.
The Chairman’s wife who solicited the continuous support of the women to Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda and her husband’s administration in the council assured them that the governor has a lot in stock for the prosperity and improved welfare of women. While delivering a new year package sent to the women by the wife of the Governor, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno, the Chairman’s wife also acknowledged cash donation from the Council chairman, Dr Anthony Luke to the women.
Addressing the women, the member representing Essien Udim State Constituency, Hon. Prince Ukpong Udoh Akpabio ll said it was necessary for him to attend the women get together to demonstrate his solidarity with them and also thank the women for their support during the 2023 gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections.
The member who reeled out some of his achievements in the past seven months in office to include empowerment of small scale entrepreneurs, empowerment of women and widows and scholarship/education support to Essien Udim students vowed to continue to make himself available to serve the people and his constituent effective representation at the state House of Assembly.
Hon. Akpabio presented some bags of rice and cash to the women in celebration of the new year and wished them a prosperous 2024. In his good will message, the Commissioner for Power Akwa Ibom State, Engr Camillus Umoh who was represented by his wife, Mrs Eme Camillus made cash donation and also tasked the women on unity and cooperation among them.
The Chapter Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Essien Udim, Hon. Rose Thompson who expressed gratitude to the Chairman’s wife for always celebrating the women also thanked Governor Umo Eno and wife, Patience for their show of love to the women and for the appointment of Dr Anthony Luke as the Transition Chairman of Essien Udim LGA
