Tinubu’s wife doles out N25million to elderly persons in C’River
Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme of the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, has disbursed N25 million cash to 250 elderly persons in Cross River State.
Flagging of the maiden edition of the scheme attended by over 400 elderly men and women at Calabar International Convention Centre (CCIC), Calabar yesterday, the First Lady said the scheme was borne out of a steadfast commitment to the well-being of senior citizens.
Mrs Tinubu represented by Wife of Cross River State governor, Rev Eyoanwan Otu disclosed that each beneficiary received N100,000.
She said that the scheme was aimed at cushioning the effect of the hardship being experienced all over the country and to alleviate the burdens of senior citizens during the festive period.
She disclosed that N950 million was approved by the governing board of the initiative, pointing out that each state of the federation is to receive N25 million, as the scheme is committed to ensuring that each state receives the sum without discrimination.
She urged the senior citizens to enjoy life to the fullest, prioritise their health, nurture their minds and strengthen their bonds with loved ones and God.
Earlier, the wife of Cross River State who was overwhelmed by the large turnout at the event, decided to make additional donation to ensure that all those who turned out for the programme went home with something.
In separate interviews shortly after the event, some of the beneficiaries who showered encomium on the president’s wife for initiating the scheme said it has not only showed her compassion for the elderly persons in the country, but will go a long way to ameliorate the hardships they have been going through for sometime now.
The event featured health talk, free medical outreach , referral and treatment for those with severe medical cases and distribution of Christmas packages for beneficiaries.
