Court stops installation of Oku Ibom Ibibio as live Chairman, Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers Council
Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo, has granted interim injunction restraining the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly from passing the proposed amendment of the Traditional Rulers Law. ,Laws of Akwa lbom State, 2022 Cap 155,. pending the hearing of the motion.
The case was adjourned to Wednesday, 27 of September, 2023 for the hearing of the said Motion on Notice when all parties will be at par.
Morenews gathered that the Akwa Ibom State Government has initiated an executive bill in the State House of Assembly seeking to amend the traditional rulers laws in the state to allow for the installation of the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium, and Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk as a live chairman of Akwa Ibom State traditional rulers council.
The leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council is by rotation alphabetically according to the local government where paramount ruler from each of the local government is installed to preside over the affairs of the council for a year.
This Reporter also learnt that the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has already allegedly passed the said amendment into law.
