Alleged gross misconduct, violation of University policy, UNICAL suspends Dean Faculty of Law
The University of Calabar has suspended its Dean of Law, Profesor Cyril Ndifon, for alleged gross misconduct and for violating the applicable laws of the university policy.
The suspension letter, directed to Prof. Ndifon was duly signed by the University’s Secretary, Mr. Gabriel Egbe on 17th August 2023 after strict adherence.
Last week, some law students numbers more than hundreds at the University of Calabar were protesting against Professor Ndifon’s over allegations of sexual harassment.
It could also be recalled that in 2015, the same Prof. Ndifon was also suspended for the same offense, but was able to defend and clear his name of any wrongdoing after receiving a verdict in his favour from the court of competent jurisdiction.
The suspension came after the Dean responded to the query request of the university leadership, but the Vice Chancellor was not satisfied with the said query, therefore the authority under the order of the Vice Chancellor of the University has ordered Prof. Ndifon’s suspension pending the determination of the investigating panel set up by the university.
The letter reads, “The vice-chancellor has gone through your written responses and is not satisfied with your explanations. She has therefore directed that you should be relieved of your position as Dean, faculty of law and placed on suspension while the matter is referred to a panel that will be set up to investigate these allegations”
“The relief of position as Dean, faculty of law and suspension from official duties takes effect from August 17, 2023. You are to hand over all official responsibilities presently handled by you to the sub – Dean of the law faculty before vacating office”
“You are to stay away from the University premises except while responding to an invitation from the panel investigating the allegations”
