A’Ibom Guber: Trade and Investment boss, Ekpenyong PDP restrategize for March 18
Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP – Ekpenyong Ward 1 in Essien Udim Local Government Area have declared their preparedness to deliver the area to the party, ahead of the rescheduled Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections come Saturday, March 18, 2023.
This was contained in a resolution over the weekend at a meeting convened by the ward leader and Hon. Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Engr. Camillus Umoh to review the party’s plans towards the election so as to position the party at a vantage pedestal to triumph during the exercise.
In his remarks, Engr. Umoh admonished the party faithful to be recharged for the elections and put behind the outcome of the recently concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, pointing out that having reassessed the exercise, discovered the loopholes and taken necessary measures to right the wrongs accordingly, the party had been placed in proper stead to reclaim her rightful position as leader to all other parties across the state during the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections.
The commissioner charged the partymen to be strengthened by their victory in Uyo and Eket senatorial districts during the elections, pointing out that it was a strong affirmation of the fact that Akwa Ibom is and has always been a PDP state, as he encouraged them to brace up and be challenged to take over their rightful position during the forthcoming elections, adding that the one – week postponement of the exercise had further accorded them more time to review the previous exercise to identify gaps and review their strategies for best results this time around.
He reiterated appreciation to his Unit 17 electorate for their support and cooperation, having stood by stood by him to deliver PDP during the Presidential and National Assembly elections and further re-emphasized the strong commitment made by Pastor Umo Bassey Eno – the Gubernatorial candidate of PDP during his campaign tour of Essien Udim Local Governmant Area, LGA for the construction of Midim Atan bridge in Ekpenyong 1 ward to reconnect the area in particular and Essien Udim at large with Etim Ekpo LGA, after many decades of severance from their kith and kin, among other benefits, hence the primary importance to support PDP.
His words: “This was one of the very few policy statements made by Pastor Umo Eno during his campaigns across the state, earmarked for execution within his first 100 days in office upon assumption of office as Governor.Out of the length and breadth of Essien Udim LGA, he named Midim Atan bridge for his immediate attention soon after his inauguration. Let us reciprocate this kind gesture with our mass of votes for PDP, most particularly across Ekpenyong 1 and Essien Udim LGA at large.”
In their respective presentations, Mr. Samuel Ikpa – ward elder; Hon. Godwin Monday Akpan – Councillor for Ekpenyong 1; Hon. Emmanuel Ben – former councillors for the ward; Hon. Nsikan Isidore – former supervisor; Mrs. Mercy Paul Jeremiah – woman leader; Mr. Udeme Udounang – former chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Essien Udim chapter, among others re-evaluated the Presidential and National Assembly elections, identified varied lapses and proffered ways forward to ensure overall success for the party during the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for this weekend.
The session drew attendance from a cross section of stakeholders – elders of the ward, women, leadership of unit and youths.
It could be recalled that the Presidential and National Assembly elections were held across the country on February 25, while the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections earlier slated for March 11 had been rescheduled for March 18, 2023.
Pastor Umo Bassey Eno is contesting the Governorship election as the Akwa Ibom State standard bearer for PDP, while Prince Ukpong Akpabio is the party’s candidate for Essien Udim state constituency in the House of Assembly.
