2023 Guber: Nya Etok blows hot, says God didn’t reveal OBA as Governor.
Contrary to claims by Archbishop Cletus Bassey that God revealed senator Bassey Albert to him as governor of Akwa Ibom State, a claim the clergyman has been bandying around whoever challenged him of his choice of OBA, a known cultist as governorship candidate to support.
In a disclaimer published to explain his own side of the archbishop’s political conundrums, Arc Ezekiel Nya Etok, who rejected the archbishop’s subtle maneuvers to coax him to submit his candidacy and structure to OBA in exchange for appointment, revealed that the archbishop didn’t hear from God but conducted a secret voting procedure to determine who would be the ACA’s preferred candidate and predeterminedly OBA was declared.
According to Arc Ezekiel Nya Etok, the archbishop, after adopting OBA as ACA’s candidate and knowing he (Nya Etok) was jolted and miffed, invited him over to a meeting where only the archbishop and Rev’d Mrs. Angela Ashong sat to explain why they eventually adopted OBA.
Arc Ezekiel Nya Etok lamented: “On account of that therefore, Arch Bishop Cletus Bassey felt I should be formally informed by none other than himself. This was to keep to a promise that he had made to me that after the voting process, he will personally Communicate the decision to me. That on the said date of his communicating the decision to me, that Rev. Mrs Angela Ashong was present and joined in the meeting with Arch Bishop Cletus Bassey and myself. That it was at this point that Arch Bishop Cletus Bassey made an elaborate explanation on the processes and the eventual decision.”
This latest revelation on how OBA came to be anointed as governorship candidate has added verve to claims that the archbishop was using ACA to freeze politicians and line up his pockets with filthy lucre, a sharp departure from ACA’s stance, which has been to promote and support only a candidate God reveals.
According to a source familiar with the deal, the archbishop was busy assuring OBA he would collapse the structure of ADC to YPP. The deal, however, broke down because of Ezekiel Nya Etok’s public stance against cultism which had tied his hands against teaming up with OBA.
Aside, a source explained, Nya Etok is the only credible governorship candidate, outside Uyo Senatorial District, that has large followers; turning over his structure to OBA was akin to jettisoning his chances when the pendulum of governance eventually swings to Ikot Ekpene senatorial district where the architect hails from.
In another development, the Archbishop Cletus Bassey, totally broken by the defection of ACA coordinators to Pastor Umo Eno’s camp, has unleashed thugs after the pastors, vowing to deal with them and anyone close to the defected coordinators.
A dependable source around Cletus Bassey warned that the defected pastors should go underground as Cletus Bassey and his closet ally, Rev’d Mrs. Angela Ashong have hired thugs amongst the cultists recruited to help YPP win elections and charged them to go after the pastors.
Meanwhile, some of the pastors who aired their views at the midweek said they have been threatened by calls by the archbishop and his boys in the YPP but added that such threats would not deter them from speaking the truth and mobilizing their Wards and Units for the victory of Pastor Umo Eno come March 18, 2023.
